Ok. Tell me if I'm wrong?

I witnessed something yesterday I have never even heard of before. I was appalled and really annoyed.
I wanted to share with you guys and see what you think...


As I've probably mentioned before, the Leeb is in the towing/repossession industry...
He had to take some kind of certification class for one of his licenses (E license if anyone knows)

ANYWAYS, I guess only one legit company offers this test online. So he started signing up and was getting ready to pay the some $ 300 this bullshit costs and called them to ask some questions before he submitted the forms.

...a nice lady answered all his questions and he went on his way back to signing up for the class...
Not even a full five minutes after completing registration he gets a call from the company.
He answers...and it's the same lady on the phone.

She tells him she got his registration and everything looked good until she got to his password which he had chosen "dickfuck." She asks him if it was some kind of "sick joke." He replies no, it was a password he uses for everything, it's always been his password, it's the easiest to remember, etc. He also adds he didn't mean to offend anyone and obviously he's a little embarrassed that anyone could see it, he thought passwords were private.
She starts this tirade, talking down to him and personally attacking his character. Like "what kind of person chooses a password like that. I worry about the professionalism and maturity of such an individual." & "if that's your mentality and how you conduct yourself in society and as a business owner I doubt your company will be successful." "Is that how you do business?"

He remained so calm and professional the whole time she was going off. Finally in the end he apologized for offending her, noted that he didn't choose that as his username/email address...it was his PASSWORD and obviously he assumed it would be private.


So, after he gets off the phone I'm fucking HEATED over this. Like who the fuck do these people think they are?! I know administrators have password access...but why is the secretary of the company calling him back to let him know his password is offensive. I can see denying his password and saying "sorry, password's can't contain offensive language." But to call him and personally insult him...wtf?

It shouldn't matter if 'teabaggin4ever' is his password, none of anyones business. That was not her place to upbraid him because she didn't care for it. If you pay their fee and take their test, well. Business concluded.

After me bitching for a few minutes, he got a little fired up and decided, no you know what I'm calling them back.
He did, and the same lady answered again. & seriously he was so classy and nice about it...just basically told them he was the one offended now. He told her he was 24 years old, a veteran, and owned his own business. He told her it was insulting that she would call him and suggest things about his character based off a private password choice.
She never even apologized.
He asked to talk to a supervisor/owner/manager/whoever was above her. She says: well, that's my husband, but he will feel the same way as I do so you'd be wasting your time.

If they wanted to regulate password choices they should be issuing them for people. Like 4-6 digit numeric numbers.
What idiots. She was trying to say his password was bad for business....NO what's bad for business is you calling him to reprimand him like a child.

I mean thinking about the number of people I alone will tell this story to (who will agree with me like wtfff)

You want me to trust you with my personal information, and you have the lack of practice to encrypt your passwords? I think the rest of the planet stopped trafficing passwords in plain-text around 1987? That date is HIGHLY accurate, look it up lady. Either way, what you've convinced me is that my $ 300 was spent on your organization in vain. Don't bother refunding me, I will call my bank and they will do it for you. I plan on using my connections in I.T. to

a)show you the misery of lousy security. Plan on your ISP blacklisting you within 24 hours.. for STARTERS...

b)Propogating your companys information along with my experience of your "parental abuse" and unprofessional conduct about my personal password choices, your lack of FIPS compliance technology wise and who NOT to take this exam through. I also have a strong suspicion that the ACE testing authority whom licenced you to re-sell their exam courses will probably place you under investigation for violating the user's rights agreement let alone a possible suspension. Just because you choose to live as a troglodite in the middle ages doesn't escape you from the responsibility of being accountable as a business in this country.. Sorry it's not what YOU or I think.. it's what the LAW dictates and you just broke it... "

He was riled up. Just very polite to her about it. Which I think he should have insisted more.
I'm pretty sure they violated some kind of law (hopefully the IT guy will confirm this and I will take those fuckers down.)

You are absolutely correct. My statements were facts not emotions. Whomever is emotional in business, is destined to be the losing party in the transaction. Period...

However to answer her question...

All you need to do is call pretending to be interested and find out what brand testing center they are, where they get their material from, etc.. then call THOSE people and report this.. also the more powerful thing to do is tell US and everyone you know the NAME OF THIS PLACE and to spread the word.... This way people about to use them will be in the know and choose elsewhere...

Be careful that the woman doesn't refund the money and ban the Leeb from taking the course all together, since this is the only legit online certification course he can take.

She had no right to do what she did, but sometimes it's best to let these things go if they can cause detriment to one's final goal.

That was his stance too. He said I'm just gonna take the test because I need to and this is more convenient than anything else. He said he'd complain later if it was still bothering him - after he completed the test and got the certificate he needed.

I am not exactly an IT professional, but I do have to agree with kevinflynn. The total lack of basic security is appalling. There is absolutely no reason that person should have been able to view the password under any circumstances.

I would also like to point out that if you bf told her that he used this password a lot, he has compromised his online presence big time. If this over the top, sanctimonious, puritan has his password, well what is to stop her from making a "point" by screwing with his online stuff.

YOUR BF NEEDS TO CHANGE ALL HIS PASSWORDS NOW!!!!! NOT 10 MINUTES FROM NOW, NOW!!!!!!!

The people who are doing this will probably have to be accredited by someone, hopefully someone in the local, county, or state government level. Find out who this is and complain to them. As is being pointed out, this is a pretty incredible tale being told.
