Should I go to Malta or Australia?

I need a change.

I'm afraid it's harder to find a job in Malta.

But maybe Australia would be too big of a change. Maybe I'm not independent enough for Australia.

Anyway, I need to get away for a year and I just cannot decide.

So decide my faith for me...

I was just watching a show with my family on this old couple (not yet even retired but close, and they both quit their jobs) and sold their house (although its in a different language so I didn't catch if they are renting still or had a house and sold it) but they saved up their money, and started to go to EASTERN Europe to start a camping site. they had never gone to eastern Europe but they just basically said, fuck it!! let's do it. sign the papers to the ownership and go!

well, if you speak good English, and have some skills i'd say Austrailia, I'm not familiar with Malta though.

I heard it's easy to find a job there, when my husband's cousin went there, she went there many years ago and found work and lived there for years.

so i'd say Austrailia, and I also heard the people are super friendly and accommodating so they'd help you out. but I hope you have some money saved up or live with someone you know there. It's easier to live with someone like a family member or friend and they could help you set up.

however, if you just wing it, it's kind of scary. but people have done it.

If you go to Australia stay away from @Arielle83

I vote Australia- but I'm biased
MALTA?

Isn't that the island of the Jesuits or something?

Confused

You'd probably have better job prospects in Australia.

Where are you from?
Depends on your skills and suchs. If you don't have much experience it'll be harder to find a good job. You'll be able to find little waitressing/cafe jobs easily though. I'm in Australia right now.. I've had like six jobs here. If you're coming on a work holiday visa, you can't have a job longer than six months. And none of the work I have found doesn't give much hours. It could just be where I'm located though. So save some money before going!!!

Haha heyyy.... Hug smile cats outta the bag. I couldn't resist the dang Australia post

Only if you go to Melbourne or Sydney, rest of the country sucks ass. And so do the people. There's no genuine warmth coming from them, it's all superficial. Nothing like European hospitality.

Not much but it does to some extent: I can confirm some of them can be very racist.

I remember when I was in Cairns - I was taking a stroll on my own - I almost got arrested for having an half an hour conversation with an aboriginal girl... Later I joined my friends and a police officer started following me around from distance, communicating with bouncers via radio to prevent me from entering into any sort of 'bar' for the night. All this? Just because I had spoken with her lol

It was an isolated case though, I can only say positive things when it comes to Aussies.

Thanks for the answer! I also think I have better job prospects in Australia.

I don't actually know much about Malta, but my friend used to live there and she loved it. She actually moves back to Malta, but I am not sure how much I can count on here help. She told me that there are a lot of Scandinavians living there. I have no idea about Jesuits.

I'm from Europe. I'm fine with waitressing and even with farm jobs. I have had bit experience in Marketing, but I am not sure if I have enough experience to find a marketing assistant job, etc there.

What jobs have you had there? Where are you living? Do you earn enough to survive there or you also need to use your savings?

Sorry for so many questions, but it would really helpful smile

If you're happy with farm work that's a good thing. As you have to do three months of regional work on a farm somewhere to stay a second year. It's hard to find though as so many backpackers are after it. And the work is inconsistent. So you could pick like blueberries for a few weeks and run out of blueberries to pick, and have to find a new farm. So i suggest doing some farm work with animals as its all year round.

I myself live just south of Sydney. It's in a small city. It's okay though. I'm not really making money to be able to survive comfortably if I were to live on my own. Thankfully I have my boyfriends parents for now. I'm saving money and trying to just establish myself in both my jobs so that they grow to like me and give me more hours. I'm saving for a student visa because it was hard for me to get ahold of farmwork. I have defs dipped into my savings and it's not a great feeling. So I stress to save a lot of money before just making some risky move. Especially if you have no one to fall back on. smile

What are your plans and goals for Australia if you come here? Is it just for a year?

Thanks!!

Well it is hard at times, but people work so hard for it for a reason. So it is still unicorns and rainbows. smile dont worry.

If you have any questions, there are a lot of groups on Facebook you can join. Independent backpackers in Australia.. you could even probably find a page called Europeans in Australia. It'd be your own kind helping you out with things, like visa questions and stuff like that.

All over mostly - but born in Sydney smile I've lived everywhere tho!

In australia ppl are racist, because they are ignorant, if they meet any person in person they are on their best behaviour but you need to understand aussies have a sense of humour and you need to know how to joke with us to get along, for instance someone might say, oh youre here to take oue jobs to which you would reply, im not here to fuck your mum thats your job. And thats how we all get along...

Take this for example...

If you cant take a joke then fuck off to where u came from.

Most of the racism stems from an unprecedented # of immigrants taking full advantage of the social security system.

Ultimately racism is far more overrated than in countries like the US, especially in the media, where they go out of their way to specify the race of an individual or group, to promote division of their people.

Australia is dangerous too. Magpies have and will continue to swoop & gouge your eyes out. And Sydney funnel web spiders will devour whats left of you.

Don't get me started on those taipans. And drop bears.. Those things will give you nightmares for the rest of your life.

this is so very true about ANYWHERE that is 1st world vs. 3rdworld.

the 3rd world countries don't have a social security set up. So if they can live in a place where they can grow old and be taken care of, it's wonderful for them. Instead of dying in a poor country where there is no medical insurance ect.

but I don't know why people are so angry about these immigrants if they contribute to the society and work hard?? and work where they are benefiting the country so that they EARN their right to have SS benefits.

why are people in general so cruel about that? they too deserve a place if they earn it.
