Certain roles require faces to be seen; so pupils should be able to meet their teachers face to face, and juries should be able to see a witness give evidence.

We are expected to follow the rules of the countries we live in and their institutions. Why should observant Muslim women be exempt from this expectation?

The veil has been called a symbol of oppression, as such, the state should not aid and abet its use.

I??ll suggest that you leave this alone..

Veil is something profoundly belongs to the person of faith no matter type of religion.

As you say by your ever growing ignorance Certain roles require faces to be seen; so pupils should be able to meet their teachers face to face, and juries should be able to see a witness give evidence.

Aside from the religious/cultural/traditional commitments, Veil also being used to protect the wearer personal problems, it covers facial or head/scalp deformations, some may have injuries either by accidents or being victims of wars or even acid attacks??_!

Stay away from this idiotic topics??_

No, they shouldn't.

For some it's about their religious beliefs and they should be allowed to dress according to that.

If I go to a muslim country you have to follow their rules and beliefs the same should apply in another country.

Freedom of religion should apply in most countries. No one is asking you to wear a veil in a muslim country, they might look funny at you but that doesn't amount to anything.

I'm half-Muslim if that's even possible lol. Christian mother & a Muslim father. In my house we were never made to wear a veil, because it's not about the outside but the inside. The only thing that matters is loving/believing in your God... with your heart. Your deeds should show this, as well.

Many of the Muslim women I know are rotten to the core but hide it behind a veil. Why choose to show your religious beliefs with something so insignificant as a veil when your insides are that of a non-believer? That's what I ask myself when I observe some "religious" people.

I don't see what the big deal is Micheal Jackson covered his kids faces up in public wherever they went.

There are Facebook statuses that say "Ban the burqa" and it disgusts me??_.you can't just rip someones culture away from them especially when they are brought up in that particular culture its sacred and has a lot to do with the community as well as the religion. What is the world coming to if you can't wear a veil out in public??_.its just more stupid laws and upset people.

I would make it an offence to drive with a burqa for obvious reasons??_

and enter banks, schools and airports...

I think over time and generations living in a community where there are more opportunities presented to you when you show your face they will make some different choices and have different expectations when rearing kids.

I think they look cool like mystical ninja wizards

Personally, I don't see the point of wearing a veil if it's only for religious purpose. Today I see it as a tool for jealous men to control their wives with, especially when it comes to wearing a burqa.

1. According to who?
2. When did it become a requirement to see someone's face when your only role is to learn/listen (e.g pupil/jury)...blind people seem to do just fine and they do not see people's faces.
3. Just because seeing someones face is a preference, does not mean it is required to complete every job. Especially not the ones you used.

I am not familiar with the "rules" of UK institutions, but does it state that someone's face must be seen to teach, listen or pass judgement on a jury? Genuine question.

Called a symbol of oppression by who? The women that wear it, or other societies that do not follow this practice?

Unless a veil makes the job being performed dangerous for the person and the public, I'm not seeing the issue other than one culture trying to dictate the behaviour of a group of people.

I said the ones I know. And it's funny because the ones who are true to their faith don't even bother to wear veils or attend mosque. They just pray at home & attend to business as usual.

You know I see a lot of non practising believers say this and tbh most if the times they say it to feel better about themselves. I'm not practising myself but most of the women here in the UK that wear a full veil are very good hearted and educated individuals. Idk it might be different down in SA. I do agree though that it has to come from your heart first and foremost.

It could either be that or the fact that it wasn't made such a big deal at home while growing up. IDK. I just go with my heart. LOL, I know & attract a lot of bad individuals so it could be just me experiencing all the ugly. It's not just Muslim women, though. Most of humanity sucks imho.

I'm pretty sure for a photo ID you will ALWAYS have to remove the veil. Where are you getting this from?

Nobody has ever asked a woman or man entering a bank or supermarket to remove a surgical mask, especially in the flu season or if the person has a health issue. Nobody would dare ask a person to remove his or her surgical mask in public, on a bus, or in a classroom. Your first thought is the person is protecting an immune system issue.

This just sounds like another assumption... I highly doubt no matter who or what your health condition may or may not be.. In a bank they are going to want to see your face. Sorry but I can't fathom that one.

I don't see how you could possibly compare the two. Most western countries do not impose religious beliefs on their citizens like how a middle eastern Islamic country would?

Veils, imo, should have to be removed when doing so is necessary for identification purposes.

One should not be exempt.

In some countries, women are required to wear some kind of covering-- visitors are expected to abide.

It's no different.

Laws are laws, whether imposed via religion or the will of the people.

On a slightly different note:

A Muslim (convert) woman in Florida who refused to be photographed w/o her veil on her drivers license, said this regarding the reason for the veil:

I can't help but wonder whether she is the exception, or the rule. o.O

I did not talk to you. You responded to my post and attacked me. Now if i was a white girl id' go to Duncan and claim your bullying me and it might work, but since im black and since this forum is racist, i can't do that, so i'll have to sit here and deal with your meaningless valueless HO BYTCH AZZ.

damn on superbowl Sunday too. You should really take into consideration what you wrote on that post and do it. Seriously. Wink.

You would still be wrong, even if you were a lovely shade of lavender. 🙂

Since this thread is partly about religion, there's a very creepy "pastor" here in my country that puts people under some kind of spell & make them to eat grass...because some scripture in the Bible talks about something of that nature. His defense is that people should not underestimate the power of God & the things people could do under the influence of the "holy" spirit. The things he does are so scary to me & I don't believe that this is a man of God. In his church, he commands the congregation to walk on, kick & stand on those that have fainted due to the so called holy spirit...just to prove that no injuries could be sustained under God's influence, etc. He can even whisper & tell people from a distance to sleep or do other things & they'll do it...even take a nap in the middle of a busy street. I think he is a sadist tbh.

People go there for all kinds of problems, including relationship ones. To pray for your relationship & make the guy/girl yours, etc. This makes me suspicious because I believe that all true matches are made by God so no amount of praying will make someone yours if they're not your God chosen partner. Anyway, one of my friends is at one of his services tonight. A girl she works with invited her there because she has seen some miracles since going there. They say another couple that goes to that church was given house keys to a beautiful, double-storey by a mere stranger. That was after they've lost their own own due losing their jobs. Again, CREEPY. I think I'll start avoiding this other girl. I don't wanna be associated with weird things.
