I was just wondering about this: how many of you got engaged totally by surprise?
What I mean is the guy proposed and you had absolutely no idea it was happening until it happened.
Or, gentlemen, you proposed and it was a complete surprise.
It would seem, judging from movies, tv, and the internet, that this is how it is traditionally supposed to go. Just wondering how often this happens in real life.

The first time, we talked about it at length, I went to the store with him to pick it out, and then I went with him to pick it up and he gave it to me in the car on the way home. He had said he would keep it and propose by surprise, but he ended up pulling over and giving it to me in the car because he couldn't wait. It was definitely a decision we made together.
Now, with the Scorp, we have been talking about it for awhile, then yesterday we went to look at rings and we ended up buying one. The Scorp said he thought it was supposed to be a surprise, but he was relieved that it's not going to be a surprise.
It's a big step, the thought of someone springing this on me unexpectedly seriously freaks me out! lol.

I haven't seen it happen. Except for once, when I was in Eat n Park, a guy in the booth behind us proposed to his girlfriend after receiving his greasy sandwich and fries. Must have been a good sandwich. It must have been a bittersweet surprise, because I remember the girl (after seeming to hyperventilate happily) asked "Why here?" But Eat n Park is a legitimate symbol of eternal love, I couldn't imagine why she'd be disappointed.
