I'm in the US, I couldn't find much on the topic of personality characteristics - it is clear that body structure goes a long way, and different track surfaces (or type of racing, e.g., steeplechase) build plays a major factor. But, I'm wondering about personality and general attitude and how that plays into how well they race (e.g., a mild mannered horse may be easier to handle and train, and will most likely listen to the rider better, but does this mean s/he doesn't have 'that' edge due to being mild mannered?)
To get the information you want you need to be on the inside a jocky or trainer are the people who know some stableboys know they take the horses out in the morning a good headboy would know but if your on the out side looking in hard to find out these things.
The thing is I know the trainer of the horse, but it is also HIS horse, so he will be a little biased. But, having done this all his life, maybe he can look at him from an analytical perspective. I hear frequently about the qualities this horse displays that I'm told are essential for a great race horse and brags about how impressed the exercise rider is with him.
Don't ask about his horse ask about other horses place your bets that way exercise riders are bias also and do and say what the trainers tell them to say. The trainer is there bread and butter.
Oh, no Tate, I'm not betting - I'm a little too conservative when it comes to stuff like that (I don't even do scratch off lottery tickets)... I'm investing! (it's low risk? 🙂)
So, from the sounds of it, my horse may never race... apparently he (the owner/trainer) is leaning towards selling. From the way he is talking, he wants me to invest, and then sell. Just, wow, really... simply wants to give me the opportunity to make a profit. Hmmm... really don't think I want to loose this guy 🙂
Anyone know anything about them? What makes a good race horse? Not just build, but attitude?
