Although I don't know all of what happen at the college in Louisiana, I would like to read other peoples opinion on how they feel about what is happening.

It is a race issue when the white kids who did the brutal beating against the black kids get probation and the black kids, with the same issue, get attempted murder charges.

Scorpionlady, here's my take on this whole issue ..
We are trying to overcome a racial problem in our country and thus far, I feel like we have come a long way to establish that everybody is equal .. but, from where I sit viewing the world, we (society) are still showing prejudism to black people, and it MUST STOP ..
As has been mentioned, I do believe that this is being handled wrong .. however, my slant is different.
It's the message that has been presented by the white community that is the problem .. when those nooses were found under the tree where the black student was resting previously .. it was blown off and taken as a joke .. that's NOT fucking funny, no excuses.
It's the whole mind-set in this part of our country and it's a travesty, to say the least. So long as this message is being sent to our young kids .. this abomination will continue, unfortunately.
I'm not even going to comment on what I think is appropriate punishment for the kids, for I don't believe it is as much their fault, as it is what they are being exposed to.
If a child is led to believe that this kind of behaviour is FUNNY, then this child is going to live what he learns. The only way to fix this problem is for the adults to step up to the plate and teach these children .. ALL CHILDREN .. that this behaviour will never be acceptable.
Of course, I realize I am just responding on one aspect of this whole situation .. but, I think I've made my point perfectly clear on how I view the whole problem we are STILL facing .. dammit.
Every person has their view, but, from my perspective, to say this has been blown out of proportion is no different than the white teachers who blew off the starting of this taunting .. complete ignorance to something that doesn't effect you .. bullshit.
It effects ALL of us ..

Actually .. being racist is a belief or doctrine based on the concept of race ..
In having this belief, it's an individuals choice whether they feel hatred, or not.

Well it's getting catchy because some kids just did it at Maryland University in College Park MD, so lets see someone sets the stage and it went from Jena Louisiana to Washington DC.
This whole things saddens me.
And in the famous words of Rodney King, Really "Why can't we all just get along"
This is fucked up situation.

Solitas .. I must say that I find your emotions a tad out of control and it appears quite odd to me, seeing that you pride yourself on being above this. Not faulting you, we are all human .. just odd.
It was my belief that you are interested in politics, which is here to serve our communities without bias and is suppose to stand for justice. Certainly, to view Rodney King as you do, is your choice and your right, however, for someone who claims to believe in justice, it's seems out in left field for you to then turn around and not only condone violence, also, have a desire to participate. Perhaps, this man was a criminal, a menace .. he still has his rights to justice within our country .. that is suppose to be what we stand for, afterall.
An eye for an eye, LITERALLY .. is barbaric.
Should a humble servant to our judicial system be outraged? Certainly for he would also be human .. however, he would be of no value or worth to the community if he was a man who sought vengence outside of our established judicial system.
Don't mean to offend or insult .. however, you are no different from any other person I come into contact with .. I speak how I feel, take it or leave it at your discretion.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Authorities said Tuesday they are considering hate crime charges in the case of a woman who was tortured while being held captive for at least a week, and they are investigating the possibility that she was lured by a man she met on the Internet.
The victim was repeatedly called a racial slur while her captors sexually abused, beat and stabbed her, her mother said.
Six people, all white, including a mother and son and a mother and daughter, were arrested in connection with the alleged abduction of the 20-year-old black woman.
?I don't understand a human being doing another human being the way they did my daughter,? Carmen Williams said Tuesday from her daughter's room at Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital. ?I didn't know there were people like that out here.?
Megan Williams, with a cast on her arm, spoke barely above a whisper.
?I'm better,? she said.
The Associated Press generally does not identify suspected victims of sexual assault, but Williams and her mother agreed to release her name.
'Out of a horror movie'
A prosecutor said police are investigating the possibility that the victim was lured to the house where she was attacked by a man she met on the internet, but Carmen Williams insisted that wasn't the case. ?This wasn't from the Internet,? she said.
Deputies also interviewed the victim Tuesday morning. State, local and federal officials planned to meet later in the day to decide whether to file hate crime charges, Logan County sheriff's Sgt. Sonya Porter said. An FBI spokesman in Pittsburgh, Bill Crowley, confirmed that the agency is looking into possible civil rights violations.
The woman's abductors called her the N-word ?every time they stabbed her,? Carmen Williams told The Charleston Gazette earlier.
Authorities were still looking for two people they believe drove the woman to the house where she was abused, said Logan County Chief Deputy V.K. Dingess.
The case is ?something that would have come out of a horror movie,? Logan County Sheriff W.E. Hunter said.
Deputies found Williams on Saturday when they went to the house in Big Creek, about 35 miles southwest of Charleston, to investigate an anonymous tip from someone who had witnessed the abuse, Porter said Tuesday.
One of the suspects, Frankie Brewster, was sitting on the front porch and told deputies she was alone, but moments later the woman limped toward the door, her arms outstretched, saying ?Help me,?

"What do people expect?"
They expect the officials who fight for justice, who do so by protecting the citizens, to carry theirselves with dignity, and not resort to displaying an abhorrence that defies what they are suppose to stand for in the name of justice for mankind.
It is simply unpardonable for a representitive who is here to uphold the law.

Solitas
I made that comment about what Rodney King said because we all do need to get along.
Your opinion about him is just that "your opinion" I hope you don't always go around judging people for the rest of your life.

Solitas, what is your point?
Fascist and Nazis had the same vision about Jew guy(s) that they were menace to the society and danger to innocent bystanders and blah blah?
These hypocrites always protesting publicly but welcome the idea (secretly).
You want the proof of their brainfart symptoms? No worries.
Go on? convert his coded racist message (white power) to this..
Jew was criminal. Their intentions are irrelevant. What I do know was he was a menace to society and a danger to innocent bystanders. So why should I care what happens to him? Now if he was a law abiding Jew guy that was straight up and followed the law and got beat for no reason I'd definitely say that's bullshit and the cops that did it should be disciplined just as violently...fair is fair. However, he was a danger to himself and society and he broke the law. What do people expect?
You got the idea? Do you see the patterns of Nazi/fascist in this? Why would blame Nazism then..?
(Primepig/solitas/quo vadis famous 3 stooges) probably are the most stupid racists across the DXP.

I'm willing to bet that solitas himself is either black, or a minority. Quo Vadis probably was a minority also, since he often brought up the topic of race and seemed so pro-white America. They tend to "come down hard" on their own, I've noticed. I don't know why exactly. ::shrugs::
Take a look at some of Branh0913's old posts. He's not alone. I have witnessed my black Caribbean-American friend(s), among others, who do that also.

""blacks always pulling the race card""
I don't know that I necessarily disagree with this .. just as I believe all people are capable of playing whatever card they have up their sleeve when it is beneficial to them.
We all do it to some extent .. we use our gender, money, status .. whatever will get us what we want.
However, to say "blacks always", puts it in a category, rather than an individual person exercising whatever power card they hold.
The problem that arises is just this .. it can't be looked at on an overall basis .. not everybody will behave the same way .. we're all individuals with different morals and standards.

It would take research to determine Louisiana's Penal Codes, and I know there's a book out there written by Carlton addressing it, which I haven't read, but, I know many states in the deep south capitalize on their prison system. I know Georgia will move for convictions with maximum sentences for nearly any crime because they use the prisoners to labor for the state without having to supply wages or any benefits.
Also, in states' sentencing regulations, there are severity level codes in which is used to determine minimum/maximum sentencing guidelines .. and I know for a fact that in many states to have the word "aggravated" attached to a sentence means that the judge can and WILL rule for maxium sentencing.
Assault and battery might only carry a 12 month sentence, or probation
While Aggravated Assault often carries a 15 year sentence.
And some judicial systems, in crooked states (who has the Chain Gang) will often trick people into thinking their charges have been reduced, such as this .. dropping from attempted murder to aggravated second-degree battery .. when in reality, by having the aggravated attached to the charge, it actually made the crime of battery more severe.
Again, I haven't looked up Louisiana's Penal Code and I'm just basing that off of the states I do know in the deep south.
Another thing that comes to mind is how people will use what power card they have, which has already been mentioned .. however, this power is also being used from the opposite position. Right now, our country knows it faces a horrible problem with our children terrorizing their schools and murdering innocents, with Columbine, for example and many, many others. And our society knows it has to take any incidents of violence seriously, for they never know when a disgruntled student is going to come back and gun the school down.
So, with this situation .. it would appear that the DA, though it's not being said outright of course, is using this to his benefit .. he knows that when it comes to school violence, our country is going to close our minds to the details and only hear about malicious violence in one of our schools .. and we already know that people will indeed form divisions in their mind when something is disturbing to become completely narrow-minded .. we do it in here every day.
Society will hear "school violence", desire severe punishment to the fullest, without any consideration into the individual aspects of the situation ..

Another thing about Jenna, and I'll have to go back and read to see, but, the last I heard, Bell's jury was all white. Of course, maybe the situation changed, I don't know .. but, IF it was an all white jury, then that's unjust .. we have a right to a fair trial in our country and with this we are allowed a jury consisting of our peers.
And if we're talking about a community where there's white/black segregation .. then an all white jury is NOT one consisting of Bell's peers and therefore was NOT a fair trial.
But, I don't know .. maybe that got fixed and the trial was fair. I'm just rambling with thoughts about this situation.
