I'm from NYC... But my dad fam is from Haiti (My great grandmother was from DR & Loved a Haitian man, so She ran away to Haiti w/ him... I guess at that time it was shunned upon to have biracial couples ) My mother fam is so mixed ( great grandfather was Irish and his wife was an African American)

Culture wise (I'm so mixed, so I have so many traditions that seems weird to people..)

& The man I'm seeing now..He's an Indian-Trinidadian...

Hahaha.. What about you??

California girl born and raised.

Biracial. Black and Hispanic. Although I do also have native American and Irish blood in me from great grandparents. My last name is even Irish.

Mom's side of family is not from this country. They came here and ended up settling down in California.

Dads side is from the south and certain parts of NY. My immediate family ended up settling down in the Midwest (Chicago).
Wow your just like me... WOW... 😄

What's their last name? My Mom's maiden name is GARLAND she carried on her Irish grandfathers name..

My mothers father was full blood Italian, My dads mother was full blooded Czechoslovakian. Then you have other little bits like my other grandmother is English decent and my other grandfather is German and Scottish. I'm related to one of the queens of England. Likely an evil and demented one. I'm assuming that because she was beheaded. Somewhere there is Native American also.

Dad's Bulgarian, he escaped in the late 50's by himself at 15. Got here when he was 17 and was sponsored by an American family in Illinois.

Mom is American but her family (2 generations prior) came here from Austria to escape the Jewish oppression. She has some Portuguese in there too.

My parents met in college a couple years after my dad got here.

They eventually settled in Oregon after bouncing between the midwest and California a few times because of his work.

No real cultural stuff, my dad left his family and wanted to be an American. But he always had an open door policy for strangers in need and other immigrants, so we had regular guests at dinner or who would stay with us like a hostel until they could find a place of their own. He (and later his mom when he brought her here) taught my mom how to cook Bulgarian dishes and they spoke Bulgarian to each other (I never learned).

I live in the woods of Northern NJ. People don't normally think we have woods here but in in them. . Black bears are more common than friends to visit. I name the Bears actually. We're great pals 😉
is that near the Poconos or more toward NY ?

More towards NY, just right on the tippy top of NJ. Close to both though

It's kind of nice to be close to the city and the Poconos, but still feel like you live in a woodsy bubble lol 🙂

Okay...is the slav squat an actual thing?

It's an actual thing for citizens of poor countries who don't have enough public benches and feel the need to sit without their asses touching the gross [very possibly phlem (from the chain smoking) covered] ground. 'Cause Asian people do that too. It's just FOBy as hell...

Okay I see it's also referred to as "third world squat".

But it appears the Slavs just make it look good.

Chicagoan 'til Chicago ends; both parents are from The Philippines. Grew up with a huge extended family (I'm close with my cousins, 2nd cousins, etc.) and have a lot of family members in Michigan, Cali, & New York. Had a pretty traditional Filipino & Catholic upbringing, so we celebrate cotillions/débutante balls/quinceañeras, 40-day memorial services, birthdays of the deceased, & death anniversaries. My mother dabbles in astrology, synastry, palm reading, feng shui, and traditional Filipino, Chinese, & Spanish superstitions so I got my interest in astrology through her.

If you attend any of my family's gatherings, you're going to leave full, drunk, or both (maybe even a case of gout). We usually order greasy food on Christmas Day & New Years' Day since everyone is trying to kill their hangovers from the night before.

Born in NYC, but am 100% Cambodian with a heavy Vietnamese/Chinese cultural influence due to my mom living in Vietnam for most of her life, and many Chinese migrating down to IndoChina in the past.
So during special holidays... Do you tie the 3 cultures (Cambo,Viet, Chinese) together?

There's not much to celebrate culture wise, besides Lunar New Year which a lot of Asian cultures celebrate anyway.
