It's not the word. It's the intent behind it. And the above quote spells out dude's intent.

I've laughed my ass off at some pretty disturbing racially sensitive posts on World Star Hip Hop, because it's just incredibly difficult to take the hicks who write stuff like that seriously.

But for some reason, it just seems worse when the person obviously knows better but still decides to be stupid (like dude, who created the thread as a joke).

Ah well.

interesting though..... I don't use the word. But it just has been a heated issue in the past in social gathering who and why it is used today.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: I could call someone a "fucking teacosy" and the way I say it will drive them to violence.

The word doesn't really matter. They could've called black people "Blacks" during those times and today to be called "black" would be derogatory (some argue it IS 'cause it's an over-simplification but brown is already taken by our Asian friends, so...).

I was once in a convo with a dude who used the word "coloured" and after chewing things over in my mind many hours, days, months later, I found that the only reason why it affected me slightly (very slightly) then was because I was aware it was an un-PC description.

That's the power of society for you: it tells you something should make you feel bad without fully explaining why you should feel bad.
