Why should I wear a mask?

This topic was created in the Miscellaneous forum by Soul on Saturday, September 12, 2020 and has 38 replies.
If this sounds like a dumb question, thats because it is. I honestly want to know why I should wear a mask though if:

1. I'm not coughing, sick, or showing any signs of covid. Why do I need a mask if I'm not sick? Its not protecting me from getting covid, so what's the point?

2. While in public like at the store I personally never say anything to anyone and just carry on with my business. So how am I personally spreading a virus if I'm not speaking and breathing through my nose the whole time?

3. This is just a fun fact rather then a notion, but did you know I touch my face 10 times more in a day due to putting on, removing, adjusting, and generally fucking with a mask? You shouldn't be concerned with the fact im covering my face, but be concerned I've touched my face more in 2020 then any year, and I'm touching other things afterwards.

Does anyone else find that aspect of masks equally stupid and alarming? Also stopping a virus like covid with a mask is like expecting a chain-link fence to stop a cherry pit.

Before you even beat your keyboard into oblivion to validate your own personal opinion to make me look stupid keep in mind the only real argument you have is trying to convince me that covid can be transmitted to other humans through simply breathing through the nose. I've already calculated all potential counters, and that is the only one that has any logic whatsoever. So good luck.
I just hate when my mask fogs up my glasses. I have to take it off sometimes in public. And I touch my face with my bare hands all the time. That's a habit I got and been had for years on end.

It is what it is

We are not only required to wear a mask

We have to wear a face shield too
Imo that is stupid af. At the same time I'm completely open to me being the actual idiot lol! I just have a hard time trusting any government, and don't understand how masks/ face shields will change anything. If something wants to take us out it will, and imo covid in general isn't the world ender people think it is.

The foundation of knowledge I would need to impart for you to understand the epidemiological and statistical reasoning behind why you should wear a mask would cost thousands of dollars at a university, and since you're not paying me thousands of dollars, I'll give you the free answer....

Tbh probably worse. The old lady fart and onion would be like an after dinner mint.

That is a perfect example of why I feel the idea of masks are flawed. People touching their face more is the major flaw. Then we have the reality of people buying up masks leaving the people in the medical field short on essentials, on top of the ecological damage millions of masks have plagued on the earth itself. Imo its all nothing more then a big waste.
I don't answer rhetorical questions.
Because if you do have Covid and you cough or sneeze, your air droplets stay mostly in your mask and don’t travel far. Lessens the spread.

Superhero’s wear costumes and help people in trouble. Think of your mask as your costume. Help other people because you want to save them. We are all superheros! 🦸‍♀️ 🦸‍♂️

So in your own personal view, if this question wasn't rhetorical in the personal way you view that term through me, what would your reply be?

Damn I'm over here trying to be diabolical and you come at me with that superhero post. My insight did not forsee that counter. Tbh the only reason I wear a mask is because the essential workers are forced to wear one. Deep down I feel if they have to be uncomfortable, then I will force myself to be uncomfortable too because on a deep level I respect them. That's off the record of this thread though 😆

We are not only required to wear a mask

We have to wear a face shield too

Asia is always steps ahead from the Western world.

Asia wants their economy.

America wants vanity and rights, because they’re scared of being told how to behave.

If everyone wears a mask, you won’t have ppl all ...”well why isn’t he wearing a mask?! I shouldn’t have to!”

But then they cry about being out of work and having to wear a mask.

Do you honestly think America is scared of being told how to behave? We are literally burning ourselves into oblivion. So in you own personal opinion, is burning ones self into oblivion a sign of being scared of being told how to behave? You tend to take the lefts side when it comes to American politics so let me answer that question for you.

The answer is yes. But that is a whole other topic.
Also Covid is not transmitted through touch as easily if at all.

It’s main path of transmission is the wet particles infected people expel through their nose and mouth. Person to person.

If someone who is infectious coughs on their hand and shakes your hand and you rub your eyes ...yes, you’re infected. Someone’s drinking from a glass, and you pick it up near the rim and later rub your eyes or mouth, you’re infected.

But you adjusting your mask is not spreading the virus.

Even if you have zero symptoms you could have the virus and be an asymptomatic carrier. In which case wearing a mask protects other from being infected. If you are healthy, wearing the mask protects you from others.

It’s very simple. And wearing masks has been proven to work against this virus by, idk... the rest of world.

Do you breath? Do you talk? Shout? Laugh?

Then you are spreading wet particles in the air. And I just covered why having no symptoms is not an indicator of virus free in my last post.

Yes, and to counter that I put on a face mask for months that blocks covid as well as a chain-link fence blocks a cherry pit. Better then nothing I guess. I mean atleast I've masked myself from something that literally killed as many people as the flu in 2018.
Also the reason businesses are requiring you to wear a mask in their establishment is less about protecting your health and more about protecting them from lawsuits.

One thing Americans love as much if not more then their guns is suing.
My bad the flu killed like 50k in 2018, apparently covid has killed about 1 million so far. Traffic lately has been pretty good on the up side though.

You seem to be confused by the very simple idea that masks are both breathable (inhales flowing thru, exhales flowing out) while catching wet droplet particles that we exhale in our breath.

Why do you think surgeons wear masks during surgery? For the aesthetic?

Probably not, but I've already prove my theories and have video to prove it. A store bought mask I have can blow out a candle at 6 feet, yet its 100% legal to enter a store with that mask. So in short the mask does nothing, yet I'm legally allowed to wear it in public.

So what is the point of wearing a mask?

I’m sorry you and others who are saving us on the front lines have to put up with this idiocy.

It must be incredibly frustrating to put you and your families health on the line every day just to be spat in the face by someone who feels wearing the mask is an inconvenience.

This is why I posted the image of the Petri dishes.

Blowing out a candle through a mask has nothing to do with stoping wet virus particles.

The majority of these wet particles are caught by the mask. Your exhale of carbon monoxide that travels through the mask and blows out the candle does not contain the dangerous particles as they have been caught by the masks fabric.

That’s where the 6’ social distance number came from. Scientists and virologist were able to determine these particles can only travel up to 6’ before falling to the ground (maskless). So if you can be 6’ or more distance from people then you don’t need the mask. But in situations where you can’t maintain that distance from people, wear a mask.

Yes if you wear your mask incorrectly and come into contact with those viral particles, you have it. Whether you show symptoms or not, whether you end up in the hospital or not.

Look wearing a mask is annoying, I get it.

I’ve been working through this pandemic and wearing a mask in 102degree weather on site, trying to take accurate measurements is not the funnest.

But when it comes to viral infections seems like history seems to nod at wearing masks being effective in slowing the spread/stopping it.

I’ve been working through this pandemic and wearing a mask in 102degree weather on site, trying to take accurate measurements is not the funnest.

But when it comes to viral infections seems like history seems to nod at wearing masks being effective in slowing the spread/stopping it.

Throw some random shit, like idk, something like Trump vs Biden as pres into the mix. Does that amplifiy anything for you?

Why are you politicizing a pandemic?

We were talking about why masks are effective in slowing/stopping transmission.

Don't be shy. You know you have a strong pick for the upcoming election. Or maybe the aspect of your personal town burning to the ground hasn't reached you yet???

I don't deny this random photo some random person made and other random people find 100% accurate, but also im not coughing, sneezing, or sick. So whats the point?

Do you breath? Do you talk? Shout? Laugh?

Then you are spreading wet particles in the air. And I just covered why having no symptoms is not an indicator of virus free in my last post.

Yes, and to counter that I put on a face mask for months that blocks covid as well as a chain-link fence blocks a cherry pit. Better then nothing I guess. I mean atleast I've masked myself from something that literally killed as many people as the flu in 2018.

I get it. So you are saying this virus can 100% undoubtedly be transmitted through breathe through the nose right?

Shy? No I’m interested in your attempt to shift the conversation.

No more cherry pit through chain link analogies to fall back on?

Can we see that one video that convinced you to trust it over science...
Masks are great.

Many women look better with masks on while I look younger and have even deeper eye contact with women. It also prevents you from talking too much to other people you don't like. When I am in a store and someone calls me, I tell him or her that I can barely breathe and talk through the mask so I hang up on them or I pretend that I can't hear them (even though that has nothing to do with the mask).

I am Pro Masking.

Also comes in handy when walking the dog, dog poo less strong on the nose when bagging.

Because if you do have Covid and you cough or sneeze, your air droplets stay mostly in your mask and don’t travel far. Lessens the spread.

Superhero’s wear costumes and help people in trouble. Think of your mask as your costume. Help other people because you want to save them. We are all superheros! 🦸‍♀️ 🦸‍♂️

Haha 😂 wearing all that ppe is probably uncomfortable. How about doing it for family members and friends?
