Headquarters flew us in for company celebration last few days. Everything covered. Which is great except I found out these past few days how chauvanistic this company is.

I just returned from "celebratory big dinner" feeling very disillusioned and disappointed.

Am I expecting too much in this 21st century or should I accept things as they are now ?

No woman in managerial position.

Only man promoted. Especially young man.

Drinking culture.

I believe any gender should be able to and given the equal opportunity to perform and rise to the challenges. I was very very wrong.

Very expensive dinner tonight including entertainment. Yet the feeling I have was disgust.

Please enlighten me.

This is an International company with branches across continents so I won't be naming names.

I am the only female in my current office.

My position is senior as well.

My observation of other ladies, They seemed content doing whatever they're doing.

Mostly wait to get married of.

One of the senior male even asked me to introduce someone to one of the female staff.

What the hell ? Do I run matchmaking website?

What about achieving personal best ?

Your expectations of corporate life are too high. The more things change the more they stay the same. Do your work and do it well, but realize that it really has nothing to do with you personally. Don't attach to it. Don't attach "hopes" and "dreams" to any structure – whether it's to do with career, or particular situation – that you didn't create yourself. Someone else's structure exists to provide you with something in exchange for something else, and it will only care for you insofar as that care can continue to facilitate that exchange. Nothing more, nothing less. It works – imperfectly, but it still works. It has *never* been truly equitable for everyone, though. Never. And it will never be, as long as it is run by people with self-interest. Nor does it have to be.

Don't personalize your work life. There is no justice in it and there is no joy in it beyond your ability to detach and understand it as a game you play to achieve certain ends. It can be as fun or miserable as you choose to perceive it.

I appreciate your response.

Very well thought and written.

My thought process currently are so jumbled like scramble eggs, I will take some more time to digest the content ?

It's disgusting. Unfortunately, I cannot enlighten you much because I am in the middle of it myself.

They don't even try to hide it.

Since the beginning of 2017.....

There were three female execs....I am the only one left, they fired the other two (and I am considering leaving)....they layered some guy between me and the new CEO recently...so, I can't even say that I am an exec with accuracy anymore.

The former CEO was a woman...they asked her to resign three or four weeks ago.

(The shit they said about her after she left....in front of me...made my stomach hurt.....as they were always visually respectful in front of her face)

The board of directors also does not have a single woman on it.

These group of men are not any other ethnicity other than caucasian.

Whatever has taken place over the past 8-9 months has set us on this path.

I was talking to my sons yesterday and I told them it's time for a family business.

Screw this work game if the rules are twisted like this.
That's really disgusting !

The ways they planned to rid of someone are just beyond decent human behaviour.

Pack mentality and done in secrecy.

What I really dislike the most is stabbing someone behind their back with no opportunity for the other to defend nor explain themselves.

Total utter coward !

So if the aspirations of all the females working there is this, why would they be in a managerial position?

Equal means equal opportunities.

If a man is more qualified than me than I expect he will be chosen for the job. And vice versa if I'm the one more qualified. A company shouldn't promote women just to be pc in this day and age.

the world sucks and is unfair. it's still ran by old, outdated, discriminatory rich fat ugly bastards. we still live in the stone age. me man, me the best. you woman, you nothing. this is really a bitch ass cowardly way to live; being determined to keep others down because you see them as a threat to your ego. why do men feel as if they can't be their best selves if women are also successful? men live off ego, which is why most of them are so blind to the fact of how truly idiotic they are. i must beat you and keep you down, despite the fact that you truly may be more skilled and more worthy of higher success than i... but i have a penis and an ego...i can't let you beat me or one up me. it would destroy my manliness. this is a truly sad, truly pathetic creature. why we dont kill them already, i just dont know. these are not men, but cowards. real men are not threatened by another's success. they welcome and support it.

Lol, you are funny and intense.

I agree on the view that some - not all - men do feel the threat of being emasculated if women are more successful than they are.

Not sure about killing this species though, it will be quite cruel. Some men are just great.

Besides some women are no angels.

My question is why at this 21st century there are such blatant " in your face" discrimination towards woman ?

I would like to know if its just the company that I currently work for or is it more prevalent than I thought ?

This thread is not bashing men.

I like men, some of them.

Definitely not Trump though, he is on my sin bin.

Not redeemable ever.

I just want to understand better if my perception are skewed.
