MEN:

Would you be willing to take a contraceptive pill with no side effects that prevented you from nutting? (Assume that the semen disperses another way painlessly)

And assume it's completely reversible (you can nut again the next day).

Would you be down for that? Apparently it exists: "THE CLEAN SHEETS PILL"

We've run a small attitudes study in the U.S. to start answering the question.

The result?

Among low- and moderate-income young men in the U.S., about 20% say —No way;??

-- about 20% say —Yes, please, when can I get it!??

... and the rest say —It depends?? on knowing more about safety, side effects, etc.

That number of men who would consider it may not sound like much, but 20% is a higher percentage of men than use condoms!

That's a little disturbing.

I didn't realize the % was so low.

But it sure explains a lot.

Interesting concept, though

Yet again another example where guys aren't down for a form of contraceptive, as it's just too much of a hassle.

...just leave it up to the woman. Again. Such lazy fucks, gawd. :/

The stats on that link made me sad.

To be fair, there are other options. Nobody said they weren't going to use a single contra at all.

I'm referring to some sort of medication involved, not condoms.

For decades, the attitude has been that they'll leave it up to women (and in a lot of cases, it was the only way for a woman to protect herself) to go to great lengths to not get pregnant because guys were already shitty enough about condom usage. When birth control, in the form of a pill, came along, women were more or less experiments while they got all the hormones and dosages down just right.

And the main reason birth control came to be due to the the high rates of pregnancy because the woman was more or less not allowed to say "no" to her husband. Cue the huge families of 8-10 children and women even dying from being pregnant so much. It's why birth control was such a huge thing at the time.

But the concept of guys taking control and taking something along the lines of medication to prevent pregnancy? OHNOES. IT MIGHT NOT BE SAFE. MY PRECIOUS PENIS MAY SUFFER. I ALREADY HATE CONDOMS AND TAKING SOMETHING IS EQUALLY AS ROUGH. WHY DO I HAVE TO TAKE INITIATIVE??

I'm grateful that all the guys that I've been with had no problem with condoms. Logic won over selfish wants.

Since hormonal BC is known to yield potentially disastrous results for women and their hormones, I can see why men might have reservations about sampling a testicular equivalent of birth control pills/shots. The side-effects suck, point blank.

Back when I was taking daily BC pills, they made me feel awful 24-7. It's like conducting an amateur science experiment on your body & hormones...and doesn't do anything to prevent against STIs & STDs. I used condoms the entire time I was on BC, so it was essentially pointless to continue with the meds.

The thing with hormonal birth control is that it's STILL trial and error since everyone is different. I was hesitant about going on it because of all the potential side effects. When you go on them initially, they make you feel the equivalent of morning sickness for a few weeks and it all mellows out.

I had issues with the patch and went on the nuva ring. I didn't bother with pills because I suck at taking pills, and the shot was just.. no. I hear more issues and horror stories from the shot than anything.

The hesitance is understandable for either side, really. It's just sad that the general attitude of guys toward any form of contraceptive is still very self centered and they just leave it up to the female to take care of - which includes all the risks of hormonal birth control. It's why I loled when they said some of the guys were worried about long term effects.

Oh NOW you're going to think about possible side effects of a medication because it affects you directly now. I see.
