i always say i'm never going to watch another harry potter movie after the 1st one because i read the books. and obviously, the books are much better because you really can't cram everything into a 2 1/2 hour movie. that being said, i didn't really like the movie. i was expecting more at the end with the showdown between the death eaters and the kids, but...KER-SPLAT! was how i felt. one of my friends thought it was okay, but she didn't read the books, so...i don't know...don't see it if you've already read the book? lol. just my two cents.

Certainly, everything can't be touched on within the minimal time frame of making a movie .. but, they could have at least gotten the story straight.

Where was Mundungus?
Cho didn't betray the DA !!
Neville didn't find the RR, Dobie did .. where the hell was Dobie and all the house elves?
That's not how the battle scene went .. geez !!
Gwarp wasn't a wuss .. he was mean as hell !!
Too many errors, admissions, changes, deletes to mention them all ..

My husband didn't read the books, so when we left the theatre, he was full of questions .. mainly, and this is really sad, he asked, "So, the order of the pheonix were the kids? Dumbledores Army?"

How pathetic .. the movie never made it perfectly clear exactly what and who the Order was, what their purpose is .. and that's the whole frigging book !!!!
He asked, "How did all the adult wizards know to go to the Ministry of Magic to save the Order of the Pheonix?"

He asked, "Why did Harry tell Snape about his vision of Sirius? I thought Harry didn't trust Snape? Why would he tell him? And who's Padfoot?"

OMG .. for people who don't know the story, they are left in confusion. They have no way of knowing what the hell the Order is and who is in it. Tell Snape? My God .. he IS the fucking order, along with the rest .. including Padfoot = Sirius.

Damn .. it was a complete trainwreck .. how many other non-readers are asking these kinds of questions?

I know I'm bitching, but, it's irritating as crap .. they could have least gotten the story right, even if some things had to be excluded to get it into the two hours.

DB,

"It seemed clear in the beginning of the movie that the Sirius's house held the Order, which of course were the adults, not the kids."

Yes, it appeared obvious to me too .. my point was, for a non-reader, it wasn't made clear. You already knew who the order was, I already knew who it was .. the non-reader didn't and the movie left these people questioning.

"When Harry mentions Padfoot to Snape, it cues that Snape will investigate the matter."

I realize this, DB .. but, it wasn't made clear enough to the non-reader .. or perhaps, it's just my husband being confused. I suppose I should ask another person who isn't familiar with the saga to see if they were left with these same confusions or if it's just my husband being a dumbass. No, DB, my husband went because he wanted to and he's seen all the rest.

Atlas .. I guess it's just my husband, then, being Mr. Unobservant.

Capgirl .. I didn't re-read it either. I did the HBP, since the Hallows comes out tomorrow, though. Suppose I should have read the Order again, also. I'm just thoroughly disappointed in this one, the last one .. in fact, I only liked the first two. Maybe they should have stuck with the original director .. he seemed to hold truer to the plot. As for entertainment .. I thought it was great, adventurous and even scarry at times. I'm just a stickler for movies doing books justice, and get upset when directors don't follow the story-line accurately. I know .. that's just me being anal 🙂

P-Angel, your rant made me laugh. I find it humorous that they always leave SO MUCH out. And I admit, I did leave the theater feeling a little bit empty...like, that's it?

Ironically enough, I try to consider how I feel about the movie from a non-reader's standpoint. I thought that non-readers would enjoy it, just as a movie. I dunno, I think that's the best way to decide since it's, well, a movie. 😛 But apparently it was confusing. Hmm...I can see that.

The two things that bothered me most was that the movie really didn't convey Harry's sense of absolute loneliness like the book did, and that Sirius's death was like...wait, what just happened? Did he die? I guess so...

My 15 year old cousin saw it and he doesn't read the books, and from what I could see, his eyes were glued to the screen (and he doesn't have a big attention span...especially during long periods of sitting - stereotypical Gemini 😛). I was basically immersed in it too. That's why I say it's a captivating adventure, even though it has its flaws.

Me too, around page two hundred .. the kids are now at the Black house, waiting for Kreacher's return.

So, the virdicts in then, Capgirl and Wheels .. it's just my husband who was left confused, lol

He's a Virgo, for Pete's Sake .. you'd think he'd have more clarity in his mental recall .. oh well, so much for astrology stereotyping.

You're right, Wheels .. when Sirius died, it wasn't real obvious, he just kind of drifted off .. if a person doesn't recall about the Avada Kadavra curse, then they might be left wondering whether he was actually killed, or left unconscious.

August 31

Keep reading .. it's getting ready to get hairy.

I left you a message on the Pisces board about the book. Something happens, starting at the wedding and continues and I've got a really bad feeling about it .. has me worried about a character.

Once you get to chapter 13, I want to talk to you to see if you are getting this same impression about .. I can't say who, you have to read it first.

BlinkandMiss, J.K. Rowling is a woman.

And yeah, the more I consider it, the more likely it seems that Rowling is into astrology...she made the main character a Leo after her own birthdate, and I could not identify more with Harry through most of the book (which may just be a coincidence, but who knows). The symbol of Gryffindor is a red and gold lion, and generally stands for the same thing as the sign of Leo. Interesting.

Not to mention, the sword of Gryffindor has a red ruby on the hilt...the birthstone of the month of July. Maybe she just incorporated as much of herself in the story as possible, without calling the main character Joanne and making Harry a British author instead of a wizard. 😛
