Hey. I had googled Norways financial and it is 6th of the richest countries as you said.

And I read an article that said:

People in their early thirties in Norway have an average annual disposable household income of around 460,000 kroner (around $ 56,200).

Young Norwegians have enjoyed a 13% rise in disposable household income in real terms compared to Generation X (those born between 1966 and 1980) when they were the same age.

————————

I want to ask if you know how is this income is enough over in Norway and why it’s not as nearly enough here in States.

I am happy it’s considered a good income o er where you are. So I am wondering is this because our prices higher? But you don’t have Wal Marts (lucky you) and your clothing is as expensive as gold. I can only judge in comparison to Germany - food is more than here.

It bothering me because our millennial kids whom I know about 25 couples - making about $ 150K per couple - ant make ends meet!

What can we learn from you?

I am not sure if you’ve ever lived in US. But if you can give any insight it would be interesting. ✌️

I am not waiting. Lol

But thanks. I am wondering though if it’s Nathan…

I hate when people are back and playing virgins BUT mentioning past like if everybody must remember. 🙄

You would have to ask him for his exact reason. For me when I did it, I wanted to delete all my post because a lot of them were about my narcissist ex Pisces bf and I was a little paranoid he might be stalking me. I wanted no evidence and I also didn't want to be reminded of him or any of that so I wanted to start fresh.

Plenty of reasons why people delete and come back. Even I've done it but came back after a month or two. This is my oldest account (from 2016, previous account was from 2014 to 2016) and I did it because I got bored with dxp for a while.

So there are 3 main reasons people usually delete and come back.

1) they were bored with dxp

2) they wanted to erase their posting history (changes in circumstances in their personal lives etc.)

3) they can't change their username and/or user profile (something that dxp admins still have not sorted out)

Of course there are nefarious reasons for deleting and coming back, but generally it's either all 3 of the above reasons or any of the 3.

I'm not sure why you would be extremely disturbed by people deleting and coming back, unless their actions impact your life in a BIG way.

Otherwise, carry on.

Ok. There is a reason I understand. We used to have debates about this when people deleting their threads where others participated as well and it was said that it’s selfish to delete dxp ‘intellectual property’ and we were asking everybody who wants to change their names and come back anew - to not to delete their threads.

But in your case - if you wanted to due to this reason - nobody could had told you not to do it.

So maybe I AM wrong but I didn’t know posts in forums can be this serious to the point of dangerous…sorry. I guess I am just having my own lack of understanding issue…🤔

Hey. I had googled Norways financial and it is 6th of the richest countries as you said.

Young Norwegians have enjoyed a 13% rise in disposable household income in real terms compared to Generation X (those born between 1966 and 1980) when they were the same age.

It bothering me because our millennial kids whom I know about 25 couples - making about $ 150K per couple - ant make ends meet!

What can we learn from you?

I am not sure if you’ve ever lived in US. But if you can give any insight it would be interesting. ✌️

I don't know much about America but I think the average income in Europe is generally lower. Salaries are higher in Norway relative to other European countries I think which makes it an expensive place to visit.

To my knowledge, current average salary in Norway is 600.000 NOK / 61.600 USD per year. The most paid careers are Engineers and Technicians with an average income of 1.200.000 NOK / 123.000 USD and Management / Business with an income of 900.000 NOK / 92.500 USD. In Oslo wages are usually higher compared to the countryside.

Living here is quite expensive, some food is imported from Denmark. Yet not everything is expensive, fresh fish and in particular salmon is cheaper than in many other countries. Alcohol is expensive, a beer in a local pub is 10 USD, in a domestic one you buy in a supermarket is about 3 USD. A big Mac menu is about 13 USD. I have no idea how much that would be in America, that's just to give an idea.

Everything about driving is very expensive. The costs add up so much I choose not to own a car, I rent one on occasion. Even if your job provides you with a company car, you'll spend a lot on additional expenses like road rolls, tax on fuel and parking fees. Actually flying is the most common method to move around here as the terrain makes everything else quite slow. In the coastal region you also have ships you can travel with, they go back and forth to other coastal cities like buses.

I think what makes things bearable here are other added costs of living. We have a good and affordable healthcare system. Everyone pays for doctor's appointments and prescriptions, but only up to an annual limit of around 2.300 NOK / 236 USD. Once you hit this limit services are free. We never see any further bills after our hospital stays.

Rental accommodation is expensive in the major cities and especially so in Oslo. However, housing does gets much cheaper the further you go into the suburbs, smaller places or even countryside. And there are tax breaks offered on savings towards a property purchase for those under the age of 35. There are other tax advantages for home owners too, which means many Norwegians own their own property by the time they hit 30 to 35. This is to encourage having a family.

The rest comes down to life style maybe. Norwegians often enjoy doing things that are free, like hiking. Generally there is a lot of outdoor activities in summer. It's a beautiful country after all.

Thanks but as you said that money is earned by engineers and I supposed IT and executives.

I am wondering what is average bank teller or store clerk salary is. Because as many engineers out there - store cashiers are more and making less. What’s the min avg for a plain non brainy jobs?

I know your northern countries are cleaner and beautiful and too cold for our spoiled asses. But if I could stand cold - I would love to live in the cleaner air environment. I think. 🤷‍♀️

Well, I'm working in that field so I focused on that line of work. We don't have a minimum wage law but the gross minimum monthly wage in Norway would be around 300.000 NOK / 31.000 USD per year for jobs like cleaning staff. Keep in mind you have to pay taxes on your income.

The more I dig the deeper it gets!

Personal Income Tax Rate in Norway averaged 46.41 percent from 1995 until 2020, reaching an all time high of 55.30 percent in 2003—

Almost HALF your earning is TAXES?

So whatever those numbers are - how can they say that your millennials are better off than whole world IF they paying half-off and your prices are high?

I don’t mind Norway being better off. Just finding out HOW and can any country be the financial model that everybody can use…🤔

There are a quite a few European countries with even higher taxes. Where do you waste all that money on that you earn? Medical bills?

I don't know if we are better off. But as a society we are very different.

Yeah. I would like to see how other societies different. You have to understand too that USA is so large that we have all the societies in one place and it’s all depends where you are. And you can pick and choose. In small countries you are locked into something and if you like it - happy you. If you don’t - there is nowhere to go but USA! That’s how we were designed I think.

I want to go back into caves lately. Not igloos. 😂😂😂😂

And yes we waste it on bills IF we don’t have insurance and we talking young generation that really don’t waste money on med bills.

Your healthcare is cheap but half off salaries makes it same or more depends on how large is half…

Yes, the UK probably has the same or higher taxes in income but it’s just split over several taxes - income tax (20-40% depending on earnings), employees national insurance (13.5% ), employers national insurance (15% ).

I read living cost in London is comparable to Oslo. Blut I don't know, I haven't been to London.

Our minimum wage until recently was 250 euros. Now with the new Government they raised it to 450 euros, which made a problem because owners are not willing to pay that much so they make the workers return 200 euros or have half - time employees. If your salary is higher than the minimum, your contract says the minimum amount and the rest is given on hand so they wouldn't need to pay for your social, medical and retirement. On paper an architect and someone working in a store have the same paycheck and benefits.

Renting a flat costs 200 euros, and that is the cheapest version with bad living condition.

Electricity is very expensive and there is no other way of heating. No gas.

Prices of drinks are up to 10 euros.

For 100 euros you can supply a family of 4 for 2-3 weeks - grocery and stuff.

The public transport system is bad and disorganised.

This is for the capital where I live. The coast is more expensive because of tourism

It sounds cheap at first reading a flat only costs 200 Euro but given that income it isn't by any means.

May I ask which country you live in?

I see. Guess you live a very different life down there in the south. Probably you don't need a lot of heating but I hope you don't run into problems next winter. Prices probably aren't going to be better anytime soon.

I don't know what to say. It's pragmatic which I like. But it also makes me feel sad somehow.

Its all relative. I mean even in america state to state city to city cost of living differs drastically. That's why the $ 1200 stimulus checks were so laughable to me. Like great, I can pay 1/3 my rent for the month. Meanwhile a family in the midwest is paying 2 months mortgage with that same amount.

Career politicians come from money and are so out of touch. They calculated that stimulus amount based on federal minimum wage of $ 7.25 per hour... hasn't increased since 2009. But cost of living has gone up over 30% across the board since then.

We need to do windfall taxes. Time for corporations to pay their fair share instead of passing the bill to consumers.
