For me, both factors are rather important.
I'm a very picky guy and in all honesty, personality and chemistry is something which I find very important. There has to be that mental compatibility, some kind of a reasonable connection. I don't really like bland people who have nothing to offer. So, personality is important to me.
Although personality is quite important, I will never go after a girl who I don't find at least somewhat attractive from physical standpoint. I'm not into girls who aren't pretty. Though, admittedly, this is also very much my tripping point - I'm 7/10 at best and any girls who I'm interested in are way out of my league. I have a higher chance of finding a unicorn than someone who I wouldn't mind in both departments.

Looks obviously. I'm a gal and I feel the same. Even though it all comes down to the right personality, I need the right physical looks as well.
I feel that guys initially go on looks-- to keep them around you have to have the right personality/compatibility etc. 99% of guys are going to compliment you within the 1st 2 min. of meeting you on your looks. "man you're so beautiful", "wow when I saw you..." But in sustained relationships I think the woman has to have substance, although many men would stick around if she were beautiful with a crappy personality. vs if she had a beautiful personality but she was at best a 4.

My Sea-Goat finds a woman attractive and then is instantly turned off when he finds out she has a lousy or unappealing personality.
For example: We were both at a Multicultural event on campus and they had a fashion show depicting traditional clothing from around the world. There was this gorgeous African girl from the Cameroon and he and I agreed she was beautiful. She ended up sitting at our table, and I told her she was beautiful and did a great job. The tables were grouped and the idea was to have cultural interactions with people.
I later got up to go to the restroom, and my boyfriend said her body language changed from the entire time we were there sitting together. She began speaking her native language to her friends (which left my Sea-Goat out) and she talked about how attractive she was. I was part of a dance performance on stage where my dance group had learned an Indian (Bangala) dance routine, a hip hop dance routine, and Latin dance style s. We invited the crowd to dance along, and my Sea-Goat said she kept rolling her eyes and acting as though she was too good to dance. In other words - he no longer was attracted to her because she just wasn't fun.
As we walked to a nearby cafe later in the day, he told me all about his change of heart. "She was really sexy, though." I said. "So, you prefer my dorky over her sexy?"
"Everyday. All day."
Personality for sure. With a dash of looks that I can be comfortable with obviously. I don't like the type of women who make me feel awkward. I like things to just flow correctly. Personally I like people somewhat like myself, so if we click they will get the best of me. Some people say that focusing on looks at all is shallow but if I don't get aroused when I look at the female I'm with then we have a major issue. The first thing you notice about a person is their looks so there has to be an attraction. But personality is even more important because I can overlook if she not the finest woman in the world, just as long as she is cunning, witty and clever such as myself then we are compatible.
