Type A's Can't Get Addicted?

This topic was created in the Personality Types forum by VenusAquarius on Monday, July 16, 2018 and has 16 replies.
I just heard this and it seems the key to why I don't get addicted to anything or anyone. The most intriguing part of this statement is... "because type A's are already addicted."

Now, the statement is obviously an exaggeration for emphasis... so, are type A's the less addictive personality type? Your thoughts.

I am researching.
Where do I check for this?

Where do I check for this?
Well, I'm looking at type A descriptions and looking at addictive personality descriptions.

So far, I'm thinking we're already high... on energy, details, endorphins...

I'm hyperthymic and ENTJ so I know I'm usually high off tasks, organization, accomplishments, planning... etc.

I'm still trying to put it all together.
LOL I checked and I'm boring ole Type B

My dad is type A. He says I’m type A.

I’ve always partied with drugs off and on.

Never addicted.

I guess type A’s have too many other distracting priorities
I think so. Cause we'll leave any party.

My aunt partied with me (who is also type A) and couldn't believe I went to work the next day on 4 hrs. of sleep.

Yes.

But, like I said in my original post:

"Now, the statement is obviously an exaggeration for emphasis..."
I replaced one addiction with another addiction. It works for me.

Is this what u guys are

“describes Type A individuals as outgoing, ambitious, rigidly organized, highly status-conscious, sensitive, impatient, anxious, proactive, and concerned with time management. People with Type A personalities are often high-achieving "workaholics". They push themselves with deadlines, and hate both delays and ambivalence.[7] People with Type A personalities experience more job-related stress and less job satisfaction.[8]

In his 1996 book dealing with extreme Type A behavior, Type A Behavior: Its Diagnosis and Treatment, Friedman suggests that dangerous Type A behavior is expressed through three major symptoms: (1) free-floating hostility, which can be triggered by even minor incidents; (2) time urgency and impatience, which causes irritation and exasperation usually described as being "short-fused"; and (3) a competitive drive, which causes stress and an achievement-driven mentality. The first of these symptoms is believed to be covert and therefore less observable, while the other two are more overt.[9]

Type A people were said to be hasty, impatient, impulsive, hyperalert, potentially hostile, and angry.[10] Research has also shown that Type A personalities deal with reality and have certain defenses when it comes to dealing with problems.[11]” I

Idk yet. It seems to be spectrum.

Does that fit you?

Nah don’t claim to be type A

But based on description might seem more Likely ? But who knows
I fit and am perceived to fit but I'm very imaginative and creative. Most don't know I can play piano by ear and don't know a note or that I am a trained fine artist. So? A spectrum.

A lot of those competitive finance executives and stock brokers in NY are hopped up on cocaine and/or some form of amphetamine.
Forced to live in an extreme type a career? Many scream uncle and become farmers or fisherman perhaps?

Do you think because they are type a

they get into cocaine n meth

Yet not addict

Yet another type might not even delve into it?

I know I few who have to drink after work to unwind every damn night.
Yeah, that's sort of what comes to mind.

Do you think you may be perceived as a type A or B by others?

There's nothing boring about being a type B at all. You may want to look again. I think type A, at the lowest levels, are considered boring. For example, type A or B can have the same jobs but have different attitudes, execution, etc. There are type A and type B composers... right?

I don't think they are forced. Most of the Wall street types thrive on competition, adrenaline, and of course, the money and the life style it provides. So unless they have a breakdown, I don't think majority of them would give it up voluntarily. The drugs just makes them feel that they have the "edge" on the other guys, with a heightened sense of focus and energy; especially if they are playing the international market, some of which are only open during the night because of the time difference.

I don't mean "forced" literally.
Supposedly I’m type A and entj, I’m the same way as Arielle I can party and use drugs without it interfering with my day to day life or distracting me. Im not sure something like addiction could simply be put into two categories like this.

However, maybe a type B person who is more laid back and may have more free time on their hands may be more susceptible to over indulgence whereas a type A is looking ahead at “what’s next” One thing I hear pretty consistently is that I never settle and I’m never satisfied.

Also, glad I saw a post from you because I’ve been meaning to update your lyrics thread! But for now, off to go do type A/entj things
