I feel like I just got 20 min lecture from my vet for allowing the bitch kitty to be an outdoor cat. About all the risk associated from kitty AIDS, kitty leukemia blah blah blah??_. But then of course gave me a $ 185 estimate to prevent all that from ever happening. She's like 15 years old, so I'm just standing there trying to hide my idgaf face best I can.

I personal think it's a bit cruel to keep a cat indoors its whole life, but per the local city animal control it's not even legal to let them out, but fuck those assholes too.

It's cruel for me to listen to her bitch and cry for hours on end just because she wants to layout on the porch and work on her damn kitty tan. So be it! Allowing her that pleasure keeps at least 50% of her fur from ending up on my furniture and clothes.

She is a fucking cat, and I don't think all that evil energy should be trapped in one house 100% of the time. And that's what I think about that.

I got the same lecture with my ginger ninja- he's always got something to prove, and gets into a fight then develops an abscess...
Damn cat has cost me a small fortune, but he loves being outside! racing around, climbing trees, following me around like a dog.
The vet suggested that he just stay in at nighttime as that is the most common time for cat fights- dusk and dawn.

So, the little bastard had now conducts his fights at 10.00am on Saturdays... You can't win!

But he know knows that if he comes in all bedraggled and sorry for himself after a brawl then he gets a salt water bath in an attempt to prevent an abscess forming.

Cats are meant to be outside, they have always been outside! They need to hunt and be wild!

I guess it really comes down to, do you want your cat to be stupendously happy, and let him go outside?

...Or sacrafice their happiness (depends on the cat) and make them stay indoors.

From personal experience I had an indoor cat, then let him outside, slowly more and more, and just saw the expression on his cute little face, how happy it made him.

So dont let the vet make you feel bad, or guilt you into making your cat an indoor cat, especially if he's already been an outdoor kitty!!!

damn...i JUST took my cat to the vet because he got out and came back with a gash on the back of his leg and has been losing a little hair back there. this was two days ago he got out and the sore was healing but i was concerned about the hair loss because i get him groomed once a month and there was no need for it. the vet said he probably did the gash to himself, gave him an antibiotic and a pest control med thingie, charged me $ 200, and is telling the county so they can visit me and tell me ALL about keeping him quarantine inside my house for 6 months.

what in the entire fuck?

but i love him, so...

Our kitties are outdoor kitties, but they mostly just stay on the porch. They are all healthy and fine.

Just got two more babies kitties. Both black 🙂

How to do that with out them running away? Do you just let them outside? Sorry, if that sounds dumb, I've just always had indoor and I'm trying to get mine to be both.

Well, they just hang out because they know there is food. So they wander, but not far. We have acreage though, so it's pretty safe.

I live in the suburbs and the street I live on has a fair amount of traffic. My grey tabby used to be an indoor/outdoor cat... until he got clipped by a car. He ducked low enough between the tires of the moving car that he didn't get nailed head on. But the car scraped a good chunk of his back fur and skin off and he had no front claws left (no blood, just frayed from digging into the asphalt really hard). Now he stays his ass inside.

I wish I live in a farm. I'd let him roam free.

omg!

I keep my cats indoors but allow them access to sun themselves on the eaves and sometimes allow them to walk around the back yard tho it is not enclosed and therefore I have to keep a close watch on them. I live on a busy road so allowing them out isn't really an option. I also live in a place where cats have been killed by other prey like hawks (yes they can take down a kitten) or wolves. I respect what your vet told you. There are indeed risks involved letting your cat outside. But I also respect why owners want to let them out. They do have more fun outside and risk is part of life. For me, living on a busy road made letting them inside/outside cats out of the question. Then I had the misfortune to see a black cat run over and just left on the side of the road. Can't tell you what that did to me seeing an angel killed like that. Super hard.

My cat loves being outside, our house is actually more hers than it is ours because we moved away for 3 years and she stayed behind with a house sitter and she looked after it while we were away.

Our cat loves to hunt and keeps the gardens clear of rats and mice, she's always leaving us decapitated rodent heads or small birds though its been a while, she's good at her job.

She really is the perfect cat although I'm quite allergic to her I'll put my special jumper on and groom her to get the excess hair and dandruff off her, she's affectionate when you need her and she's more than happy to have her own space, she gets along with the dogs and loves playing chase with them, she even shares her food with them by pushing it off the bench and feeds them hahhah..

One time I was sitting watching TV and she jumped in my lap and I was stroking her and my hand was covered in blood and she had a serious gash on her neck from a fight or something and it kinda freaked me out at first but I sat there with my hands cupped, palms up in my lap and she sat there with her head in my hands but not touching my skin just enough that we could feel each others auras, warmth or something and we mediated together for what seemed like an hour and it was really intense healing??_..two days later she jumps up in my lap again and feel her neck and theres a scab and I scratch it and it just flakes off revealing a perfect little pink scar and she still has it to this day and its been our little secret since.

I have the same thoughts on dogs and cats - I'll let them out when I'm with them and bring them back inside with me. 3 of my 4 cats would not leave the yard if they were to be let outside, so I could let them be while enjoying the sun, myself. My other cat we had a kitty leash for. I personally like this option the best. Less chances for the cat to be harmed and they still get to enjoy the outdoors. My fiance's mother has outdoor cats and I can't tell you how many times I hear about them getting run over by cars or never showing up again. Of course, my friend also has outdoor/indoor cats that they let roam wherever and they've lived through all that. I don't really enjoy petting them, though, as their fur is either dirty or they have some sort of bites or bumps on them.

But, to each their own.
