Hi, I have a Beta and he is sick with some kind of fin disease. I got some drops for the water from the pet shop, but he is not responding...could anyone tell me if there is anything else I can do? Add more drops—
No,go by the directions otherwise you'll kill him for the drops.Next is its caused by fungus basically so change out most of his water(not sure how experianced with fish you are but you have to keep a small portion of old water in as too avoid shock and death to the fish.So only 75% of the water should be replaced)OR if you keep him in one of those small betta jars you can get him one of those round,1 gallon goldfish bowl or something bigger with already clean water in it to just put him and all of the old water in.They're healthier and last longer in bigger bowls or tanks,I had one live almost 5 or 6 years when most pet shops say a year cause they aren't educated about the bigger space, better health part of bettas.
Okay myths about male bettas-You can't keep them with other fish-true AND false. You can keep them with similiar sized, peaceful fish so long as they don't look similiar to another male betta and you have to put him in last(after he's healed of course,he'll infect other fish right now).Male bettas(Not at all, thats were the rep comes from! They will kill each other) and female bettas you can't have with them except mating which you still have to give her protection, hiding places, etc.and not keep them together too long. The female bettas are also an exception depending on tank size,if it's big enough you can have females and a single male in a decent sized tank together.Maybe 10 gallons.
Depending on how severe the fin damage is,the fins may not repair completely but he'll still be okay otherwise.Thats pretty much it,more water and space should have him feeling better faster. And if you didn't know the second paragraph part already you do now.🙂
Okay, I had him in a 2 pint vase (K-Mart Betta) with a plant. I wondered if he was having too much trouble getting up to the surface to breathe since he got sick, so I took out the plant and emptied out some of the water. Now I see that wasn't a good idea.
So now I have him in a different larger bowl (still no plant) and 3 pints of water plus some of the old water, too. I've medicated the water and we'll see how it goes from here.
Thank you a lot for your help in this. He has been with me since March of this year. So, he is part of the family, and would like to keep him in ship shape. But, he doesn't look good at all right now. Labored breathing and so on, too. Maybe this will help tho. Thanks so much, again, ltvm
My fishie is a loaner and probably wouldn't have hurt anything ever at all. He is not doing well...has fuzz on his tail and labored breathing. I don't think I can do anything more.

My cat spunky died on Sunday; He was my bestfriend, the only one I can run to and he wouldn't stray. He was in my life since I was 8yrs old and now I am 23. I miss him so much, it's like an emptiness I feel on this inside, because I lost my best friend. T
I cherish my dog as much as any other person in my life. I will always keep him inside with me and outside when he wants to go out. Unless I am outside (However he doesn't mind much) What does everyone think? Inside or outside, what does everyone think? I
I got my first little fur ball in college. Most people dont know that rats are as intelligent as dogs, and they will bond with their owner. They are loyal fun loving, gentle little creatures for the most part, and do the funniest things. It is best to h
