I just found out that my dog has fleas. She is at the groomers right now getting treated. I am worried that he fleas are in my carpet.
Does anyone know how to get rid of fleas if they ar in the carpet?
There are special flea "bombs" you can find at the pet store. You just set them off before you leave the house. It's like a chemical spray/mist. There is also carpet dust that you can sprinkle on your carpet and let it sit then vaccum it up. Don't do any of this with other animals in the house though!! It's toxic to them. Usually you let this stuff set for a day or so and then go back in your house and clean everything. It's a pain but it works.
I had that problem with my pet raccoon a few years ago. Sad It was horrible. I got bite up quite a bit. Thank goodness I just had to bomb the house once and it killed them all.
Oh! Also there is pellets you can put in your yard to take care of them outside. You just sprinkle the pellets around and water them down or wait for a rain. They dissolve and they are suppose to keep the fleas out of your yard.
Try and keep up with flea medication even in the winter. I use frontline on my cats. It's a monthly medication. It's really easy but I think it makes them a bit sick/lethargic for a day or so. Poor babies. Sad
Oh thanks ginger!! I didn't know they had flea bombs ^_^
I HAD a pet raccoon. He got to be about 30 pounds (he loved cheetos) and he got kinda snarky towards me. I found an wild animal resuce outside of town that worked with him to gradually re introduce him into the wild. This has been about 2 years ago and I found out recently that he had been turned out and was doing well coming back to the rescue for occasional visits smile
I got him because some hick sob shot his mother to get the babies to sell. He was gonna kill Meeko because he was a "boar" coon that nobody would want. Nah I don't think so. I took him on the spot. He was only a few days old.
I really miss that little guy. He was a hoot. He was like my baby.
I have pics of us if you want to see them Ms. P

Me too. I swear I would start the animal army if I could.
I know this thread is months old, but thought I'd chime in. If you're going natural for flea control boil orange rind in water, let it cool, and rub the animal well with it. Even safe for smaller animals. At the garden center pick up diatomaceous earth, sprinkle it on your carpets, sweep. It shreds flea bodies to bits. Toss the sweeper bag when finished and vacuum furniture well. Pennyroyal in a sewn collar and cram any pet bedding with cedar. Fleas don't care for it and it smells good as well. And do not let animals ingest pennyroyal, internally it's no good for man or beast.

Uber old, but I'm tossing this out there for anyone else who's wondering- Vinegar in water. 1/1 ratio, and put it in bowls around the house. The vinegar attracts the fleas, but it also breaks down the water proof coat they have, and the water drowns them. My house got insanely infested after my last cat had died, and within a few weeks, the house was rid of fleas. Totally natural and the pets won't be tempted to drink it, either.

This is good to know. Thanks for all the advice posters. I love animals and would have a ton of them if that was possible for me right now but it's not so I just have my three cats and a rat. I love them dearly as they are my precious furry babies!
