I have had cats and dogs as pets and find that I prefer dogs...
I also have a pet bunny, a Netherland Dwarf...he is the cutest, sweetest... and he is smart! He is potty trained! The only problem with the poor guy is that we were told he was female...so his name is 'Violet' as his eyes sort of looked dark violet in the sunshine... We decided that he really doesn't know that he has a feminine name...so, we left it as is since he knows his name and responds to it.. Just don't call him and tell him...he would be devastated! He really thinks he is quite macho!!
Seriously, don't you think that any animal can excell when the owner spends time with them and works to train them?! I am saddened when I see an animal who could've been so much better trained, disciplined and exercised...but, wasn't due to laziness of the owner.
As an animal lover, I feel that when a person is choosing an animal, they need to determine their own willingness to put forth the effort to help this animal attain it's best!
I wish people would adopt pets! They're already spayed and neutered and they need homes and it really sad how many are destroyed because people just don't care!
Why buy one from a mill there are so many good ones that really need someone!
Good story-
My ex-boyfriend had a girlfriend and she was not well and abandoned her animals. My sister and I went every week for over a year to feed them some 30 miles away. They went semi wild and you couldn't get them in the car! One of them was a puppy and as sweet as could be. She stayed with us but was so aggressive from having to fend for her food that she was fighting with my others at the house. I had to take her to the ASPCA, and boy that was hard! I called and wanted to find out if she was ok daily, and they said I couldn't keep making calls down there bothering them. Weeks had gone by and I thought of her everyday feeling very guilty!!! Then I was at the Home Depot watering my plants (I was a merchandiser), and I turned to leave to go home and there she(the pup) was in line. They were holding a DLH/parvo/rabies clinic in the parking lot of Home Depot and she was there with her new owners!!! They were a young couple that just loved her. If I had left any sooner, I would not have seen her. That was one of those blessings that makes you just say thanks!!
152, That was a good story! Thank you for sharing! That was wonderful of you and your sister to be so dedicated (for over a year)!!! I am impressed! And, I love a happy ending!
Yes, there are really cruel people in this world, Suzy Q! Something I will never understand!!! I have tried to 'save' semi-wild animals before though and once enough of the wild gets into them...well, it was more than I could take on...so, I fed them on my doorstep. At least they knew that it was a safe place. A place to get food. They refused the shelter...
I will never understand those who raise dogs to be 'attack dogs'...barely giving them contact, feeding them bloody meat, so they crave the taste of blood, keeping them locked in small quarters...
I love animals, but, I am saddened when they are treated this way... I am also saddened when I read of a dog attacking humans...mostly youth...
An animal is only able to react the way it was trained..they do not reason or transcend beyond that...
If they are treated with compassion, love, and respect; I do believe they learn to have compassion, love and respect...
There are many sad stories out there, I am sure...
