My poor kitty :(

She got diagnosed with kidney failure a few days ago. I wish I'd been able to get her in sooner because her weight loss had been bothering me for awhile, but I've been tied up financially with my mom's stuff, so she had to wait.
I've had her since she was 6 weeks old, and met her when she was only hours old. I've had her for almost 16 years now. I've had this cat for half my life. I consider her my baby and she latched on to me when we brought her home and I became her replacement "mom."
When I would leave for school, I could hear her scratching at the front door and crying when I would leave.
The first trip I took away from home lasted a whole weekend and she slept by the front door, waiting for me.
She was there for my dad's death.
She likes to curl up on my lap just because she wants to get close to her mommy.
She's always had an obsession with water- loves to be sprayed with a squirt bottle, doesn't mind sitting under a faucet, letting her head get soaked, so she can drink water (which is why I was so surprised that she was dehydrated when she went in for her check up).
When I visited her during her 2 day vet stay, her eyes lit up when she saw me, she came over to the cage door and wanted desperately for me to take her home. When it came time to take her home, as the vet was wrapping things up with her while she was on the table, she comes over to me to be petted and she starts purring up a storm (despite any unpleasantness that happened prior).
This post is mostly to vent. I've been reading everything I can on this and how to treat it in order for her to have the best quality of life and to prolong it as best we can. It's still been hard wrapping my head around the fact that my kitty is terminal and the time I have left now is touchy. I've been bracing myself over the last few years because I knew she was getting up there in years, but damn. I took her in, thinking she maybe had a thyroid issue. Not terminal ckd.
My poor baby girl. Sad
Thanks. She's an ornery brat, so I'm hoping she can hang in there for a long while. Her numbers dropped significantly after her treatment, so it's a little promising. The rest is on her and how well she eats. I have to give her fluids twice a week and she's currently on antibiotics.
It's my Saturn return, too. So of course, THIS has to be thrown at me. Ugh. My birthday is actually in about 3 weeks so I hope all is well then and well beyond.
Pets ARE family. Especially this one. When you've had a pet this long, it's difficult not to get hit hard by the news. I fricken bawled my eyes out after I dropped her off for her treatment. I was reading up on info about what to expect when it becomes end stage and I started crying again. My poor bub.
However, prior to this, it was promising that her eyes were still bright and she's pretty much been herself. The only telltale was weight, lack of cleaning herself, and she smelling funky (kidneys).
At best, I have 2 years, from what the vet said. However, there have been stories of much longer, so we'll see.
She gets a follow up in a week, so I'll be curious to see what her numbers are then.
To top it off, the poor thing had a ruptured anal gland. She's got two staples in her butt, haha. Poor baby.
I'm sorry to hear about your little girl. Sad
Sorry to hear that Amey ♥
I know there is nothing anyone can say to make it better.
Losing a pet is worse than losing a close friend sometimes... they are more than family.
The way she has enriched your life won't ever leave you.
Hmmm...
It might sound cruel..
But ending her life will be mercy...
Her suffering is of paramount importance then ur feelings...
Show love by doing an act of mercy...
Don't cling....that's selfishness.

Oh, and u experience this ?
With blood transfusion ?

Cats can still live a good quality of life with renal disease when it's properly treated.

Medically I've experienced a few fucked up things that I don't care to elaborate on with you. Don't make this thread about you, or me. This isn't the place for your bullshit, troll elsewhere.

lol. The ignorant one speaks! I was wondering who you were talking to. (I blocked the dude).
So far, fluid treatment has helped considerably. It's what got those BUN levels to drop so fast. Hopefully with biweekly fluid therapy and her prescription diet she'll be good for awhile.
There was a story I read about where a cat was diagnosed with CKD at 6 months. Lived to be like 17.
Hmmm....
Muahahahaha .....

I agree.
It's not abt me or u..
It's about a poor cat that's dying....suffering because the OP is only concerned about her own feelings.
The OP is only here for sympathies..., pathetically obvious.
I offer a solution;
1. Chop off the cat's head, she won't feel it.
2. Hammer her head with 1 mighty blow..
3. Drop the cat off a 30 story building, a fast death.
All of the above is better then prolonging the cat's suffering..
It's mercy...
Now get that into ur selfish heads...
U must really hv a physic connection with cats 2 as u can feel their pain huh....
If u feel ur delusions r right...
Phulease do so......
But those r actually just ur feelings...
The fact remains....
The cat has no say...
Not even 1 bit....
The thing is she isn't suffering right now, so it's ignorant to assume as much. What dipshit immediately goes for euthanization just because there has been a not so great diagnosis?
Oh, trolls be trollin. That said, I'm not bothering acknowledging this retard at this point. I dunno why anyone else continues to do so either.
Regardless, my cat's still been her usual bright eyed, ornery self. Just keeping a close eye on her.
U announce...
U r suffering emotionally..super long post.
But ur cat is not suffering despite problems to the kidney..super short post.
U must be taking too much drugs...
I strongly suggest u go for treatments 2 cure ur obvious delusions..
Poor cat...
2 hv a druggie as a master...

I agree with you Rocky, I think block is a suitable option now.
I'm really pleased to hear your girl seems her usual self smile Sounds like she's doing well.

U look stupid..
And u also think like an idiot...
But it's good 2 hv idiots around..
We do need slaves...
Muahahahahahaha..................
p/s: At least when u pose ur picture, make it cute k, this one looks pathetically sad.
Btw, thanks for all the well wishes, guys. smile
FINALLY got her to eat. The vet gave me the okay to give her some of her regular food if I couldn't get her to eat the prescribed stuff. She inhaled what I gave her and I am soo relieved. She's so picky!
justmeh aka WELLTHEN aka curious2know you should try reading and comprehending what rocky wrote prior to pushing your personal beliefs down anyone else's throat and being so judgemental in the process.
Ever heard of the Quality of Life scale or Dr. Alice Villalobos? Didn't think so. Maybe you should leave the decision- making and treatment options to rockyroad and the vet. They know her cat -you don't.

rockyroadicecream: Sorry about your cat. May you have many more happy years with your baby girl.
Haha, stfu you freaking nutter. I know my cat better than you do. I've had animals my entire life and am well aware of how they function. She's far from suffering at the moment. Bounding around the house and acting like she's 7 again is far from hiding pain. If anything some of her behavior before is what alerted me something was wrong/she was due to see the vet, which is why I took her in to begin with. I knew something was up, just didn't know what.
So my taking my cat into the vet when I knew something was wrong was selfish how?
Yeah, you have no idea what the hell you're going on about. Go be a dickhead elsewhere. I'm sure PETA would be glad to have you. They love to prematurely put pets down like you seem to favor. You'd fit right in!

Thanks Tamara. She's been doing great. I'm so fricken happy for her. She's her old self again.

She got diagnosed with kidney failure

Renal failure isn't curable ... you either have dialysis, a transplate ... or you die.
Renal disease in felines shows no symptoms, usually, until the kidneys are operating at around 30% ... that is to say, that they cannot "tell" you, so you have to go by "signs" ... which aren't noticeable until most of the cats nephrons are destroyed.
In advanced stages of kidney disease, the kidneys are no longer able to hold water ... the cat will, therefore, pee all the time, in large quantities ... eventually, the disease will progress to the point that her body will start retaining the waste products, rather than dispelling them ..... at this point, the cat will stop urinating at all.
Once the cat stops peeing and goes into Kidney failure ... she will die within hours, having been suffering having to go the bathroom, but, can't.
You said she had kidney failure ... and this is inaccurate. If she had kidney failure two days ago, she would have died two days ago.
Secondly, a vet who has diagnosed a cat with Renal Failure should have his liscense taken away from him, if he allowed a cat in this condition to return home to die in agony.
yes, stop allowing yourself to go to the bathroom ... and you will experience for yourself the level of agony that sets in.
How fucking cruel of you
Has anyone in here who is saying that the cat isn't suffering and for people to shut up who is telling her to put the cat down .... ever been constipated?

If you have, then you realize what it feels like for your body not to dispel it's toxins ... it's fucking painful as fuck.

Just because the cat is not able to talk to tell you it hurts, doesn't mean it doesn't hurt.

The humane thing to do is to put the cat down ... before it slips into a coma.

Quality of life has stopped. From this point forward, it lives in despair.

How fucking cruel of you .. you obviously can't get past your own feelings long enough to do the right thing ... why is that not surprising?

When in reality, you had no clue, at all about your own cat .... such as what you said below .....

.... I was so surprised that she was dehydrated ....

When a feline has advanced stages of Renal Disease, the first sign is massive urination EVERYWHERE .... pee so much that you wonder if it will overflow the litter box.
And you never noticed ... you only noticed wieght loss?
The wieght loss was due to water loss, from pee ... so you never notice urine throughout your house, and then you are surprised that she's dehydrated?

lol .... you're a bumbling idiot.

do the right thing and ask your PARENTS to put the family pet to sleep ... because obviously, she's not YOUR cat, or you would have noticed cat piss all over your house.
You decieve ... on purpose it appears, likely to get sympathy for YOUR feelings, as if they supercede the dire need of the cat to be released from this life.

::: shakes head :::

Rocky's cat has been diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), not End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). There is a HUGE difference. Chronic means that CKD is an ongoing disease and in many cases, it can be managed. CKD is terminal, and will eventually move into ESRD. ESRD means that the cat's kidneys are at the point of failure and there is no longer anything that can be done.
Her cat is back to eating, acting playful and enjoying her life. If she were in pain and suffering, this would not be the case.

.... I was so surprised that she was dehydrated ....

Looks like I have to repeat myself ....

The first noticeable sign of kidney disease in a feline, which occurs AFTER 70% of the nephrons have been destroyed, is excessive urination.
According to the OP, who obviously is only concerned about her own feelings, she never noticed and was surprised that the cat was dehydrated.
M, your taunting of me is only in place because you falsely percieved that I accused you of being Elle .. which has nothing to do with this topic, but, has everything to do with you still walking around with a stick up your ass because obviously you are unable to unwedge it from your asshole, eventhough that statement was never an accusation ... which means you were, and still are feeling guilty.
So, that makes you the asshole, who can't get over himself long enough to rationalize perspective.
And you, tamara, are quite mistaken, because according to the OP, she stated the diagnosis as being kidney failure ... and I'm tell you, as I'll tell anyone .... a cat, or any animal or person who is experiencing kidney failure is suffering. Just because you like the OP, doesn't grant her permission to be inhumane.

So, her peeing everywhere in mass amounts never tipped you off?
That didn't clue you in that something was amiss?
You act like you know what's going on and trying to act like you know your shit, when in reality, you are full of shit.
I would suggest that the next time you try to lie, to get pity ... google it first so you will be able to lie without being detected.

I'm really hoping my baby sticks around for a very long time I've had my baby for 9 years now.
Sorry about all the pet woes recently I know about this too well one of my cats died years ago from a dog attack and I still
and will always miss her. It was the worst pain ever, I get so sad when I think about her sometimes but then my other
baby makes me feel better. She's my lil darling.

I have no idea what exactly the banshee wrote about but I have an idea- if anyone comes to this thread and goes off on a tirade, they clearly know nothing about animals and are talking out of their ass.
It's so el oh el worthy.
@Harry, I've got my fosters too, and I'm sure they'll provide some comfort when the time comes, but they aren't my bub. I'm gonna enjoy what time I have left, though. Sixteen years has been a good stretch so far. Fingers crossed she can manage up to two more. WITHOUT PAIN AND SUFFERING. (disclaimer for the illiterate).
