Realizing that people have lives and not overwork them. Ensure work is evenly distributed and expectations are equal.
Expectations always differentiate between people

Even distribution might not always be as efficient

IMO: a lot of people don't realize that being a supervisor entails more than management.

They dont consider they're in a spot between the random variables of subordinates and a possibly incompetent manager. Some think that it's easy street from their previous position. So, willingness to put in that extra work is an important supervisor trait.

Otherwise:

- Attention to detail

- Ability to sympathize but remain detached.

- Confidence in their choices.

- Time management skills

- Expecting the unexpected

- Eating shit without wincing
I agree about the easy street thing. They think taking the position is closest ladder to moving up, but I think alot of people fail to realize the qualities ut takes to lead people. You have to be very well rounded

the best ones get their hands as dirty and no job is too low for them

they have clear expectations and goals

they realize talent and support it

they promote

they aren't assholes, micro managers, or belittle

they're supportive for events out of work, they care about you as an individual

they're professional yet warm and kind yet tough and goal oriented
Kind yet tough & goal oriented. I like that
I have about 35 people under me in my current job. I was in charge of about 25 people in my last job. I've been the Captain of every team I've ever been on. Here's my leadership style ...

-I don't let anyone outwork me and I'll do and help with any job in the company. This alone engenders respect because I don't expect anyone to do anything I wouldn't do and no one can say I don't work as hard as they do.

- I give leeway. If it's not busy, go ahead and go to lunch or run errands when you're on the clock. When it's time to work though, I expect you to be on point. Otherwise, you're making us all look bad and that's a problem.

- Be fair. I let people know what to expect and the quality/level things should be done at. Mistakes will be made but as long as they're not the same ones, we can work together to remedy any issue/problem. If you do make a mistake, you can trust me not to share it with everyone.

- Cover for others when things come up in their daily lives and they need unexpected time off to take care of it whether it's family, illness, mental break etc.

- Don't sell them out and back them up when dealing with unreasonable clients. I'm willing to handle any situation.

- Pay attention to their particular needs as a person. One of the worst mistakes you can make is treating everyone the same. Not everyone needs the same thing and protocol/ways of doing things need to be flexible based on circumstance.

- Actions speak louder than words; confidence comes from demonstrated ability not talking about it.

- Put people in the best position to succeed based on their strengths and what they bring to the table.

-Make it fun and consider them friends so they enjoy coming to work.
I leave everybody alone and let them do their thing as long as the job gets done. In my book leadership qualities for being a supervisor requires good leadership skills. Tbh I really don't like being a leader but prefer to stay a loner. It seems everybody looks to me to lead I don't know why is that.
As hilarious as the op is and I'm actually still laughing. Ole 777, my boi. I for one most definitely can't see him being a supervisor or having any great standard qualities as being a true leader if he has to make a thread on a public forum asking strangers what it takes to be a leader.

Yeah I co-sign this.

Best boss I had (when I was a lifeguard) would do everything with us...take out the trash, clean the kitchen, do all the dirty jobs.

Worse manager I had hadn’t ever done the job of the people/department he managed. He was someone corporate put in that position and had no concept of what it took/what the day to day was like on the field. Wow that was such a s hit show. Trying to tell him issues we had was like talking to a brick wall.
