another vital point in my life

so right now, i could buy an electric drumkit, a new guitar and a brand spanking new 27 inch imac, or i could get a second hand car.
i feel i can only choose one path, and the one with the instruments for me seems to be screaming at me. i feel my inner self grasp at it with more heart. i look at the car and dont imagine any good future that it will bring me.

i am not a big work fan, yet i dont want to be too stuck in a reality of dreams and aspirations. a car just seems like it will put another hold off on my dreams, i'm not a prophet, i can't guess what the future brings, but i think this is another defining, changing moment in my life. hahah. seriously. lol.
wow

So, instead of havng responsibility in taking care of yourself .. your only aspirations are to live solely within your dream?

No car?

I suppose you are still living in your parents basement as well, aren't you?
"i look at the car and dont imagine any good future that it will bring me."
"i am not a big work fan"
"a car just seems like it will put another hold off on my dreams"

wow again ... just amazing
What is this generation raising? Is this what people mean when they talk about their adult child sitting on the couch playing video games?
yes i am still living with my parents. who said you needed a car to get to places? they are a waste of money in my eyes. besides who knows i might even end up getting a car in the end anyway with some lucky fluke.

Yeah. In fact, my mom was complaining the other day about these kids she knows getting married, having kids and STILL living with their folks. I guess we're regressing back to the days when three or four generations lived together in one house.
IMO, it's pathetic, but it's the parents fault, too, for allowing it. My dad would never allow that nonsense. The day I turned 18, I had to start paying rent to live in his house.
@P-Angel we're evolving grandma, just because you didn't have technology when you were a kid, doesn't mean you have to be negative on what you call "this generation". i have good intentions with the "toys" i want to get.
@Asleep i've written my goals down, in my head, by memory. i wake up to them every day, and now more than ever i need to approach these goals with maturity and realism. the more i get my name out there the better.
And to all of you, I live with my parents but I still have to pay board, electricity, do my own grocery shopping, clean the house, do all that jazz. I live in a granny flat, but its separate to my parents house.

GOOD! I wish more of your generation did these things.

Yes, it is pathetic .. yeah, it's the parents fault. I'm sure those parents try to get the kids to do somethign with their life besides just dream of being somebody, someday .. but, the kids think that buying a new controller or game is going to make opportunities come knocking on their door so they don't have to get up.

YOu already said you don't want to work, so you can't come in after the fact to make claims that you have the financial reserve to afford yourself, because if you did then this thread wouldn't be in existence because you would have the funds to buy all of the above.
You lost my respect when you said you don't want to work .. if you don't want to work then it means you would shrug off your responsibilities.
i should of worded it better. what i meant to say is i hate the concept of working in a job you don't like or appreciate. to me that is what "work" is. if i can get a job or earn income from something I enjoy doing, where it doesn't seem like work, that would be ideal. i am sorry, i got caught up in my emotions and I really should of explained myself more, because I don't hate the idea of "working" towards something you want.

I think everyone hates that, Shun. Unfortunately, that's the reality for most people. I know exactly one person who actually enjoys his work and finds it fulfilling. Oddly enough, though, he is a Pisces. smile
Then I digress ... it sounded like you meant you are not working and not even trying to do anything except dream.

You limit yourself to the schedule of public transportation if you don't. Meaning, less opportunities to get gigs farther away and at later times.

Damnit ... why did you have to tell him?
Hi shun,
It's a catch-22, the order doesn't have to be perfect (you will always be second-guessing yourself, anyway), we all do at some point. Either way it will all work out in the end, you just have to be extra* patient for now and weigh-in each priority. Start out with any kind of drums you fancy (they are all valuable learning experiences..) And don't let your transport or lack-of dictate your chosen instrument, btw. Real drums, of course are more expensive, but an investment for upgrading later on. Also, (drums) are very* heavy to transport because of the additional hardware, etc. If you do play real drums (my Sag's a pro drummer & loves them, btw..), or any instrument for that matter, you will very likely need a reliable vehicle or transport at some point to get around, depending how far you want to go. Anyway, it takes time to learn/perfect any instrument, no rush, & gives you plenty extra lee-way, to save up.
As for the work situation, that may not be so be perfect either (starting out, anyway).. alot depends on your (chosen) state-of-mind. Unless you're working for an Adolf or your job situation is physically dangerous, keep it positive and upbeat, there's a silver-lining to everything. If you've got some kind of job security (especially) in this kind of economy, you've won half the battle.
Stay thirsty & g/luck! ..
Thanks for the advice everyone, I have taken it all on board. My Goal is to become a musical / visual artist. Combining music and my artistic side into one. Making my own music videos, and perhaps even directing and making videos with other people who share the same interest. I have a youtube account with some stuff up, i have a little bit of a following (just over 200 people). I have a lot of musical influences so I am always changing and mixing it up with every song i produce. At the same time though I want to be more confident in myself and so I've decided to buy a car with the money I have saved up instead. My dad has generously offered to buy the imac for me on his credit card, but as long as i can pay it off, which I have agreed to do.

don't be so presumptuous. he said what he wanted, made it clear,so i told him to go with that. i know nothing of this person and was going with what he was making obvious he wanted based on the info in this thread.

You're welcome to kiss my ass Big Grin
I say what I want, when I want to, and to whomever I want .. you are more than welcome to talk to, assume or not, decide on whatever clarifications for yourself that you want, while refraining from telling another person what to say .. and after you do that, you can kiss my ass again.

I'm nice like that. Try it sometimes. It's good for your complexion.

Is that right? Well, I just might one day, but, not this day.
If a person of this age has to be told how to be an adult ... then that's not coming from me. His parents should have instilled that.
Probably smile
