Hi everyone.
Let me start by stating that I have been reading about my sign in particular (Pisces) and about the validity in general of astrology during the last 2 or 3 days quite intensely, and that is something I never really cared for before. And after some considerations, I came to realize a few facts about this tradition, that I would like to share. The turning point to my would-be beliefs indeed lie in the reading of parts of this forum. Four facts -independent but somehow linked- can be isolated. Firstly, according to the records and reports from many people, it cannot be denied that astrology might be carrying some insight, and could be used (!handle with care!) in self-improvement therapies or techniques, along with other mental and/or physical other trainings. Secondly, while the positive effects quoted above cannot be denied and should be used, there is an inherent danger to the overall use of this in every-day life situations, one that is a new form of discrimination. Thirdly, another side-effect of astrology is the personal misuse that some psychologically down or pessimistic people might happen to do: By that I mean, some might self-pity themselves for their so-called ?weaknesses? instead of taking the healthy course that we all can take as human beings: Change. Finally, another side that we cannot deny is the extensive scientific research that has left little to no logical ground to astrology, and the astonishing generality and vagueness used in these ?astrological charts?, to the point that a na?ve individual could recognize him or herself in potentially any of the descriptions.
Let's all agree: Astrology seems to work too much for it to be beside the point. You might say that many profiles and-or charts might match the same person, but still, the things they come-up with, well it is rather impressive! Many people can agree on this prerequisite to any conversation on the subject: To an incredible enough extend, they work.
That being said, I would like to point that everybody sharing insights and information on these boards have something in common. They all have an interest in astrology, and most of them (if not all) believe in it -again, take with a grain of salt here, I didn't have time to dig more deeply into it. This situation, this ?common ground? creates a bias. Do people write down how they feel because they are Taurus, or because they are into this field? Does a Gemini feel the way he/she does because he/she is a Gemini, or
or because he/she tricked him/herself into believing he/she is this ?referenced? individual the chart talked about? For having known a few people in the field of psychology and cognition before, and for being impressed by some visual tricks and illusions, I can only tell you that much: The human brain can go deep sometimes, be sure not to mistake the side effect for the cause!
One way this manifests itself is through hatred. I started reading because I have been led to get interested into m own sign b reading about something completely different, in fact light years away. But obviously, some people have been led here because they have encountered some individuals who have been poorly behaving and fooling them. I can mostly think of this woman who have been married to a man who happened to be a Pisces -and apparently an insecure manipulator too! Now, after years of suffering, she hates all Pisces men, because she assimilates all of them with insecure manipulators (by the way, 1/24th of 6.5 billion people is roughly 271 million people, a little less than the entire population of the USA. Quite a lot to hate). And of course, other people joining her in saying that the indeed are manipulators also happen to have quite an heavy ?background? with some! Not quite the sort of people you want to hear testimonies from to judge the entire kind. You would prefer to ear somebody more neutral. But then again, ?somebody more neutral? generally does NOT find the path to such a forum, and when they do they probably don't bother taking part in the conversation. That leaves the hating people in entire charge, with in front of them other people from the attacked sign (who also happen to have quite a background themselves). Would you consider it a fair and balanced trial? And this is where the danger lies: A new form of discrimination, not different in essence from racism or religious war, except for the fact that people were born to their side of the conflict.
The third comment would be on self-pity. If you start digging too much into astrology, you might end-up saying to yourself, ?well, that's the way I am, why should I bother fighting my birthday??. It is not unlike the point made above, but inward-centered: Instead of hating others, you hate yourself. You condescend to who you are, and you end-up pitying yourself. Doing that, you tend to forget a little point: People did manage to change in the past, they can do it again. And you. Personally, when I read who I was sup
