You are on page out of 12 | Reverse Order
Out of boredom I am starting this thread, if even just to talk to myself for the next few months.
I feel nostalgic around the holidays, well, more so than usual. So I am going to post old wrestling episodes and comment on them. Hopefully the old fans Tiz, VH, Slicks and PP will stop by. Tho, PP, I am starting pre divas. But Chris Jericho looked like a girl back then so you can root for him. And maybe I can create new fans along the way Tongue
Imma be posting in somewhat of an order once or twice a week or more or less, when I am bored. Starting in 1997.
I'm posting on the Pisces board, cuz I mean, Wrestling is basically a big fat land of make believe. Just like pisces La La Land.
And I'm sure people will come and hate and call it fake and retarded, well no shit its "sports entertainment" like all the other drivel on Television.

I'm gnna start with some WCW Nitro vs WWF Raw March 31 1997
Bits from Nitro:

Why Not start with a Pisces

Its not a very good Nitro which is why I posted edits. I just really wanted to start Raw on this dates. The character developments of DDP and Sting along with the cray-ness of Piper and Flair were the highlights.
< width="420" height="315" ="

Heres the Raw. Its the start of some good things to come.
Until next time. Good fight. Goodnight. Tongue
This LEGENDARY match will live in infamy

hahah oh nightsy smile

I'm not nearly well versed enough to participate in this thread, but when I was younger....pre-12ish... I totally loved to watch the WWF. I was an Undertaker fan. I will wholeheartedly admit, that I thought it was real back then. lol til I smartened/hardened up, and kicked unrealistic out of my repertoire.

Great thread. I'll be tuning in again. This week is a little busy.
I still watch the Raw after Survivor Series 98 where Rock gives his first promo as corporate champion every month. And I was listening to Owen Hart's nation theme all of last week.

Woot! 'atta boy!

Hahaha I guess it would be kind of hard to like Taker after that with his character being so over the top

Bret Hart was a BA! Which is why I wanted to start in 97. Tho was the end of his run, the Canada vs US story was hot.
This match still makes me aggravated.I hate anything that is unfair.what a screw job!!!
< width="420" height="315" ="

great match though
DAMN
I THOUGHT THIS WAS FEMALE
NUDE MUD WRESTLING
Posted by Slicks
^Bret Hart had all the moves, a great story teller in the ring. I was sad when he left WWF

and WCW had noooooooooooooo clue what to do with him like a bunch of assclowns.
Posted by tiziani
Aside from Montreal SS, I can't think of many matches I like from 97 in WWF but I think this was 97. The match that later gave birth to the NWO Fingerpoke of Doom
< width="420" height="315" ="

hahaha ah yes. Def not as Armageddonish as the finger poke

which wrestler had that british bulldog as a mascot?
loved that piper guy. lol. crazy!!

Bulldog did carry around a bulldog once upon a time. And someone stole it lmao

Dad and I would watch the PPVs with the video scrambled and listening to the audio like it was old timey radio. i'd be bouncing around the room like a maniac as I acted out the matches and just felt the energy of the event. sunday and monday nights were always a party. talk about escapism!

sounds about right

More wrestling nerdiness:
I memorized some of these speeches back in grade school and never forgot them. The one that starts off the first video, with Stone Cold and Vince in the ring. and then Austin's King of The Ring victory rant.
His character, namely this wild Sag (Dec 18) sticking it to authority and trusting no one, influenced me big time. To me, Bret Hart (July 2) and Steve Austin were like yin and yang. The humble hero/family man and the anti-hero who's more angry at the world yet carries a similar value system as the hero. Equally matched, but opposites. I thought they worked well together to pull off this dynamic. Though I stopped watching years ago, once upon a time, these words were gospel.

I love the king of the ring speech. I still quote pieces to overly religious people Tongue
BTW im just gnna continue in somewhat chronological order with my comments when i get a chance. Not every single week of nitro and raw tho. Tiz, ill try and hurry to 98 Tongue
He's usually right about ol Trips tho

This is like some fascinating foreign language to me.
I feel so deprived

Come and learn the language
< width="420" height="315" ="
Its a crappy first hour but the second hour starts hot with good ol Flair and Piper and the ending with DDP and Macho man at the forefront of the NWO war.
The thing about Nitro in this period is the crowds are always on fire and makes the show seem more exciting than it would be without them.
< width="420" height="315" ="
I like Raws stories overall more.
The Bret/shawn/owen/bulldog/austin and even LOD and Mankind/vader make for a good continuing story.
I skipped ahead 2 weeks.
< width="420" height="315" ="
Nitro is still pretty Meh for the most part
The whole glacier, wrath and mortis thing makes makes me lawl
I cant wait till Jericho goes into his asshole gimmick
The NWO was already growing tiring
The one thing I do like is X pac and Nash starting their feud with Flair and Piper. Nash is one intense cancer shit talker and cuts one HELLUVA promo towards the end. Show then ends with Flairs rebuttal. And then good ol Scott Hall makes his return (from rehab)
The last 15 minutes are hot and worth watching IMO
Onto Raw
< width="420" height="315" ="
The old raw opening always gets me all hyped!
lmao at Austin looking at Vinces watch while waiting for Bret
Ahmed Johnson was pretty badass. Too bad he was also so injury prone
Vader got arrested in Kuwait lmao
This Austin/Michales against the Hart foundation stuff is great
That feud is the hot feud but the rest at the moment are pretty blah. Mankind and Taker was staleeee byt his point.
Good end throwing Ausints ex tag team partner Pillman into the mix
Lmao oh yeahhhh I forgot about that. When he was the ringmaster :/
The first ever wrestling match I remember watching.
Good memories Big Grin
< width="420" height="315" ="
Some april 28 97 Nitro:
< width="420" height="315" ="

< width="420" height="315" ="

< width="420" height="315" ="

< width="420" height="315" ="

< width="420" height="315" ="

Good lil cruiserweight match
And man I loved that 4 horsemen theme song
Bobby heenen cracks me up on the announcing
Flair and piper are quite the entertaining duo. Idk what Pipers idiocy was about tho.
Pretty meh nitro
On to Raw
< width="420" height="315" ="
The praying for bret is ridiculous in the beginning but in a good way
Owen-rock is good
I did always enjoy Ken Shamrock
The Taker-Austin stuff is a lil weak atm
but the hart foundation is now complete!
Another short Nitro this week cuz of the NBA playoffs so Im not gnna watch.
Heres the may 5 97 raw
< width="420" height="315" ="
Lmao at own holding all the belts in the first segment
That ol' Cancer Bret was never the greatest talker on the mic but very gritty in real imo
Ahmed Johnsons theme song is where its at
Well Goldusts Theme too.
Vader is a good first feud for Shamrock
The search for michaels is ricockulous
Another cancer, Shawn Michaels, is also gritty on the mic sometimes but it is probably the HBK-Hart rivalry that brings it out of em.
Still a nice dynamic with the hart foundations vs michaels and LOD and austin
idk bout this Austin-Taker championship stuff tho
Well no Ill take back that last sentenced. Throwing Taker into the fray at the end worked very well. Even in modern day, when the lights go off and his music hits, its a phenomenon of its own.
Pretty great go home show into the PPV
I'm not gnna watch that PPV tho
Onto the next week
< width="420" height="315" ="
The 6 man tag match at the upcoming PPV is the only good build. Tho I will probably watch it.
Weak ass show.
And youtube doesnt want to work for the raw that week Angry
so some other time.
< width="420" height="315" ="

Lets try this again
I used to watch wrestling when I was younger. I was probably about 12 or 13 when I saw an episode where they brought on two old ladies to talk about their book or something and then the wrestlers came in and sent them both out on stretchers. I think Big Show might've been there for that? I'm not sure. But, that pretty much scarred me and I took a few year hiatus from it after that. : (
So it opens with an in memory of someone and then flashes to the cold day in hell PPV logo lmao
The starting bret promo was pretty drawn out :/
king of the ring tournament starting. Nice, nice
I can't lie, the Mankind gimmick gets on my nerves
Farooq makin a good point that no black person has held the world title in the WWF
Ahhh its Rob....van....dam and hes up against a young Jeff Hardy
Ah so this is the episode when Bret rants and raves at the end and goes on to long and the show just ends. Oh Bret. Was a good promo tho. HEATED. The end will be shown on the next episode.
All in all the Hart Foundation angle was better than the NWO at this point even if the ratings didnt show it.

lmao aww yeah that would be Mae Young and fabulous moolah. Mae Young was always getting beat up, but thats how she liked it. She even has said that if she makes it to 100 she wants to have a wrestling match. Straight Face
Shes a pisces btw lolol
I like the race and country angles at this time anyway. Controversy creates cash, as titles on Eric Bischoffs book.
Are Rock and Trips your faves Tiz?

I'm not as big on Rock as many people are, even though you can't help but like him a lot.
Triple H is indeed my favourite wrestler of all time.

Yeah I agree it is impossible not to like Rock.
Where as triple haitch is in the opposite for me, its hard for me to like him, but I do tryyy hahaha

Haha but that's why I love him so much. As a heel, that is. He made me hate him like no other at the time in his prime as the Cerebral Assassin and eventually that earned my lifelong respect.
My only regret is the Two Man Power Trip with Austin was cut short by his injury.

Yeah I'll agree with you there. He was one hellll of a heel. The two man Power Trip was pretty badass as well. That match where he did get hurt against the two Chris's was great.
I think the reason I get sick of him tho is because of the post attitude era Raws where it was the Triple H show and was atrocious.
I do enjoy his 2000 run as THE heel tho
Yeah I wasnt watching regularly either, but thats because it was the Triple H show starting in 2002. Tongue
Anything with Kurt Angle is gold tho!
I would have skipped 1997 and started in 1998 but the Hart Foundation Angle is one of my all time favorites. Till it all fallas apart over the summer. Then I will prolly do some skipping.
Posted by tiziani

One thing I'll admit is Triple H could never be a top guy as a face. Just wasn't on the level of Austin or Rock as a face. But as a heel he had anyone beat.

I do agree with that. Him and ol Vinnie Mac himself were monster heels.
WCW Slamboree 1997
Theyre in Charlotte! Flair country! Woo!
Regal vs Ultimo Dragon for TV Title
Pretty good opener. Wcws undercard was far superior to WWFs at this point. Iffy finish but a very technically sound match. 2.5/5
Luna Vachon vs Madusa
Luna seems like a diva PP would like.. Blah match
0.5/5
DDP taking some nice shots at Macho man in a promo. And then DDP beats the shit out of him with a crutch. Till NWO makes the save. Then the giant makes the save of DDP to a huge pop.
Yuji Yasuraoka vs Rey Mysterio jr
Idk who the fuck Yuji is. Rey got a decent match out of him tho. 2/5
Glacier vs Mortis
:/ Thankfully wasnt even a match, but a quick disqualification. Then more people come out and its a clusterfuck.
Jeff Jarret vs the man of 1,000 holds Dean Malenko for US title
Crowd keeps getting into Jarret Sucks chants. He is quite over rated. Mostly in his own mind. Steve Mcmichael costs him the match. Match was okaaay. 2/5
Meng vs Chris Benoit
This was good for what it was, a straight up brawl. 2/5
Steiner Brothers vs Hugh Morrus/Konnan
Ehhhh pretty boring but man I did love when Scott use to do that badass Frankensteiner. Before his massive steroids killed all that. 1/5
Steve McMichael vs Reggie White
The football player brawl. It was what it was, and it was not very good. 1/5
Nash, Hall and Pac vs Falir, Piper and Greene
The main event! (and really the only build to the PPV)
Flairs entrance blows the roof off the place! I liked the build cuz it seems like the NWO is too strong to lose but they are against the vets and the young football player. However the payoff was awesome! and the crowd ate it all up 4/5
I have mixed feelings on the PPV because half the matches were bland. I do like Pay Per Views with lots of matches tho to get your money worth but only if the main event is quality stuff and it was in this instance. As usual for WCW at this point the crowd energy helps a whole lot. I'll give the grade of a C-
