Frankly...
I have met great people on here.
I am a black male, 28 years of age, born and raised and makin moves in TOLEDO.
I have VERY, VERY, VERY strong opinions on the "N" word.
Being here on dxp.net is probably one of the best things to happen to me this summer. (sad huh? hey , what can i say?)
Intelligent women.
Real conversations.
Topics.
Astrology and relationships..... finding all you to talk to about these things
means A WHOLE lot to me.
My friends are sick of me talking about that shyt ....LOL
What i'm getting to is this:
I DEEPLY VALUE the people i've found here on these boards.
and i've been going AGAINST my nature and PURPOSELY not looking at the
"N" word board because i'm fearful that i will read something that
anger me, hurt me or just plain lessen my enthusiasm to come here.
For all the white people here....
understand this:
Double standards, racism and even MORE double standards are the TRUE
foundation of The United States of America.
Minorities have NEVER truly been U.S. Citizens...
So how we deal with our identity,
how we fit into this society,
and whether or not our conditions get better or worse...are things that
will take many many many more years to perfect.
Your opinion can either help or hurt this process.
Choose wisely.
Hopefully.... we can keep this on the up and up.
And i can continue loving the interaction i get on here and not give a damn about race.
Peace.

MR,
I'm a white female, age 47, from Washington, D.C. . . and this statement, "Minorities have NEVER truly been U.S. Citizens..."
For most of the time, up until just several decades ago, women, no matter the race, weren't considered equal to the white male. I know that black people do have this "bad history" that's hard to overcome and I understand that . . but, even white women have had to overcome this obsticle, rise above and come to grips that we belong to our society and are truly are US citizens.
So, eventhough, I'm not black and can't even begin to imagine how it feels to walk in your shoes . . I can remember back when I was in my 20's, just being a female . . anything. Men could sexually harrass us, make any sexual comments they wanted, some men even grabbed women's "part" and there was nothing we could do, except accept.
I realize it's not the exact same issue . . but, relative. My point is, I have some understanding as to why this is "sensitive" to you.
Tanya023, I totally agree with, "it's better to talk about it...and sometimes to ignore it.. if people are too stubborn to change, there would be no change at all even if they want it to happen" The reason for the "N" word thread was to discuss each person's point of view and I thought there are some pretty enlightening perspectives. Not everybody agreed with everyone else, but, that's what made it so wonderful, so powerful.
If everyone agrees on everything, then there's nothing to discuss, nothing to learn, nowhere to grow . . we might as well die and be done with it.
You should read that thread, most of it is very insightful as to why and how people feel, and how they process the information of other's perspective . . . everybody's views are theirs to own and that's ok . . . it doesnt' mean you have to own someone elses opinion, just grow from it.

"To be honest, the whole slavery and holacaust thing is all forced emotions. People want to make themselves feel bad about it."
Uh, maybe sometimes, but not all the time. You can honestly say that you have never read a story about the way these people were treated and not become infuriated and bitter? It destroys your faith in the human race. It's NOT a forced emotion. It's an AUTOMATIC reaction.

I'm trying to defend him. Because I understand where he's coming from and I feel like branh is discrediting his valid points.

I don't really see the similarity. Do you mean because both think people should rise above stereotypes?

I suppose that would make their viewpoints alike. But while Mercury Rising acknowledges double standards, branh seems to think they are just an excuse to play the victim. Which isn't always the case.

Some white girl sent me a message on my myspace page the other day asking if i date white women.
I stalled on my answer.
She hit me back to tell me why i should hook up with her, she wrote:
"I use slang alot and everybody says i'm just like one of da niggaz"
I haven't spoken to her since and have no plans to.

Wow, well ... people like that are immature and very stupid in the sense of human nature. It may be a good thing that you didn't don't go for that type of thing because she seems to be feeding into an image.

hmmm, the fact that put her "culture/race" or whatever(lol) in a text seems to be alittle troublesome.
Hmm, I wouldn't care ............... what't the point in even asking that ? Ha, I guess I just don't get it.

Oh no SB, what you say is true ... hhaha, for some reason most people want to know a person cultural/ racial background when it comes to sites like these or dating sites ... weird.
Honeycoe,
I'm curious as to why you think one race commits crimes against each other ... never heard of anything like that before so I was just wondering.

Keep up tension?
No not so? I was just merely pointing out those things because I was making a point about how I agree with Mercury not speaking to that girl who emailed him.
However, I was just conversating ... not trying to keep up anything. It's a shocker to me because I'm not around people who make issues with things like that ... sorry.
very true.
However... this racial stuff is VERY important to this society.
America was built on racist practices. Literally and figuratively BUILT on racism.
It needs to be talked about at some time.
BUT CERTAINLY NOT on dxp - LOL

You know what I find that is so hard for us all to communicate on here and be civil?
It's the tone in ones voice, the look on their face . . it's absent here in this land. The only thing we have is typed words. The expression on ones face speaks louder than any words that can be typed . . so, it's hard for other's to fully comprehend where the other is coming from . .
