Jonathan Swift once wrote:

"Falsehood flies, and the Truth comes limping after it; so that when Men come to be undeceiv’d, it is too late; the Jest is over, and the Tale has had its Effect…"

More commonly, this takes its form in a quote attributed, but not confirmed, by

Mark Twain:

"A lie can travel around the world and back again while the truth is lacing up its boots.”

Apparently a man's reputation and family was subjected to needless public shaming:

From the article:

"This was a serious and thorough investigation that left no stone unturned in our pursuit of the facts,” Grassley said. “In the end, there was no credible evidence to support the allegations against the nominee.”https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/press/rep/releases/senate-judiciary-committee-releases-summary-of-investigation-from-supreme-court-confirmation …"

You won't see this touted in the media outlets who participated in spreading the falsehoods and innuendo. It was also fairly obvious that the treatment of Kavanaugh really pissed off a few of the Senators such as Grassley and Graham.

If there is any justice, the criminal referrals coming out of this should be pursued with vigor and the guilty parties punished, not only for their crimes, but so in the future people think twice about trying this type of shit again.
