How do you define dating?

This ought to be good...
Exclusive, we're dating
(says the Cap!)
Dating to me is either the trial period before a relationship where I go places with ONE person on my mind or dating is being in an exclusive relationship with someone. It depends on the context. It's also common to view dating as a trial period involving multiple different people around the same time but while I find that view very interesting, it doesn't fit my personal definition.
just hanging out while getting to observe how i interact with the opposite sex, mostly, for practice and self-improvement.
however, i do date with a "purpose" these days.
what the purpose is, i don't quite know yet.
Mind fuck.
I hate dating.
The bit before you are married but you don't have the ring on your finger just yet.

Dude I asked about you...happy to see you're back.
You have no clue who I am though but I DOOOO
Being courted by a suitor. As you get older and you decide you want a real relationship or would rather stay single, you realize there are 2 kinds of men in the world: suitors and every other joker in the deck. You want a real relationship? Only deal with suitors and shuffle the jokers back into the deck. Suitors are men who are very interested in getting to know you to the point they a) ask you out on a date b) pick up the check and c) act like a gentleman.
Not fucking
Dating - meeting up on a regular basis to pursue a romance. This would be the period before we become an actual couple, where we act on our best behavior. I consider "dating" casual.. I wouldnt expect anyone to be exclusive until we discussed it.

man sees woman. man likes woman. woman clubs man unconscious.
woman ties man to chair and demands he takes care of the babies he made while he was unconscious.
man tries to commit suicide

Now thats funny.
hmm. dating. it's fun. lol. I mean you get to make great friends that way, but it feel too "set-up" for me in terms of having a relationship with the person. I rather just sink into love with someone that I already know than deliberately go out and "find" someone to love.
Dating: You meet someone. An interest (high or low) is established. You talk, go on dates, or engage in activities/conversations with the intent of getting to know them better and to gage how insinc they are with your immediate and long term goals. You gage compatibility. You're still seeing other people (not exclusive), unless you mutually at some point agree not to. You may or may not explore the sexual aspect of them. If all looks clear, a relationship comes next
You're getting a live preview of what a relationship with them would most likely be like.
