what's up with men— Or is it women—

After my recent experience of which I'm coping with quite well considering... I've just had a call from a friend that I had hooked up with a girlfriend of mine. He was ending their friendship of 2 months. Both seemed to hit it off wonderfully well and living in different cities had started with a texting friendship which lead to a meeting (no sex involved because of religious reasons) and phone conversations. Don't get me wrong cos I know that 2 months is not a lifetime commitment but what I'm getting at is this...

He says sweet things like how much he is missing her when she isn't around, he calls her baby or pet names, refers to the future when talking and makes her feel as though there is alot going on. They boost you up and make you feel oh soooo special and then as fast as it all happens they rip the rug out from underneath you!!! REMEMBER sex is not an issue here at all!!!

Yes my girlfriend has low self esteem and needs to work on herself BUT why do guys do this...lead you into believing that there is a future and you are THE ONE and oh so special, then they turn into cowards and all of a sudden they can't even give a descent explaination as to why. They either shut you out completely or give some half chickened excuse or try and lighten the blow when in fact the honest truth is the only thing that will help you get over them completely!!!

It's been a real eye opener to me and my situation as this guy (mate) of mine, I thought, would never, never treat a girl in this manner because of his religious standings and the person that he is. I totally understand if he feels she isn't the one for him, everyone has a choice...But push come to shove and he treats her as badly as any selffish man almost becoming in-human!!!

Sweetheart, this is a puzzle I haven't figured out yet. Why do guys do this? Maybe it's some evolutionary malfunction in these guys since they're no longer hunter gatherers and there's more equality of the sexes these days. But I don't have a clue.
