how they thought the pairing of Aidan and Carrie is a good thing? and over 2 seasons...

I mean, who would choose Aidan, if not desperate? he was boring af

(PS. Carrie is a selfish character, I dont like her, but to suggest she should go with Aidan just because he loves her? nonsense)

If they wanted to offer some opposite to Big, why not choose someone more charismatic? like it would be more believable

bad casting (and bad writing)

I was thinking about this before, if Aidan would be played by someone with charisma, like David Duchovny or ....

but, how Aidan would be a real prospect for Carrie who liked Big? it was an easy cop out, because there was not a real possibility she would fall in love with Aidan.... was it a cautionary tale not to waste time for people who are just a "settling" category? I mean, if they did Aidan a bit more attractive, it would be more believable

but as they did it, it was no real contest

imho

and dragging it on for two seasons where it was clear from the beginning it will not work was just tiresome

Carrie had usually attractive partners, why would the showrunners pair her up with a homely looking fat guy?

was it to say you cant have an attractive partner and you have to settle down to whomever who has real interest in you?

aidan was a boring taurus man
see, I thought Big was a typical taurus (or some other earth sign), like he liked luxury (Carrie was not a luxury item, no model type and nothing special in terms of behaving, connections, etc.) and it took him forever to warm to her

Aidan - I can see him as Libra or Pisces, not earth sign at all

Taste is suggestive. I thought Aiden was cute as hell and an amazing romantic partner, I didn't see the "fatness" lol. She did him dirty because homeboy just wanted to kick back and watch TV. He was not a real prospect for her and I think that was supposed to be the conflict of it, she was a spoiled brat who wanted to party and do what she wanted despite how it affects others, and he was a gentle and thoughtful man who was done partying. I'd love a Taurus man like him.
I dont think Aidan was a Taurus at all smile

Carrie was a spoiled brat, but always had attractive partners.... why the showrunners thought it would be a good and believable idea to pair her up (nearly marriage!!) with someone like Aiden?

noone believed she was in love with him at all

Aidan was for Carrie, what Carrie was for Big

very sad actually

Harry had charisma, Aidan didnt have any, big difference

the main thing I missed in Aidan (as you all are rightly pointed out that beauty is in the eye of the beholder) is his lack of fire, he was bland with no character and personality

Harry on the other hand had lots of charisma and personality

even Steve had more personalit than Aidan

lmao steve

if i had my pick of characters

i would prefer big

with no carrie

just stick with natasha

but that wouldn't make for compelling television

do you remember burger

he was insecure so carrie bought him a prada shirt

burger was insufferable, even for Carrie smile

Big with Natasha is a typical high-class marriage, frozen in lies, without real connection, there are too many of them

but I am not surprised Big married Natasha, who had the things he tought he wanted (model, social connections, parents with a Hampstead home, etc)

I'm rewatching SATC too, I don't think Aiden was boring I just think he was too stable for Carrie, I think the actor is hot but in his own different way, very different actually than the guys Carrie usually dates as you mentioned, and def different than Mr. Big.

The character of Aiden was just a proof to show that women like Carrie don't need the typical love that ends in marriage and kids, she wanted sth exceptional and unrestrained, even if it provides all the love and support she needed in her life. Aiden was the boy next door, everywoman's dream, supportive, kind, loving caring and fairly hot, but predictable, dull and SAFE.

I believe the Russian character was more perfect for Carrie but I'm not there yet to judge. I am still stuck in season three.

How far have you gotten in SATC?

"Aiden was the boy next door, everywoman's dream, supportive, kind, loving caring and fairly hot, but predictable, dull and SAFE."

everywoman´s dream as to behaviour but in different package

like if you find someone attractive and with personality and charm, you would like them to behave like Aidan. But having Aidan without these characteristics would end like in the series: Carrie trying to love the "nice man" and hurting him for years in the process

thats why I thought it was a cautionary tale about settling down and fooling people for years

if its not the right type you wish for really (I mean, Aidan married someone later, because he just wanted to settle down, so it wasnt only about totally loving Carrie) and Carrie didnt settle down, she always wanted Big, not settle down with anybody, but with Big

she may have thought she would want Burger or any other of them, but if they were in a stable relationship, she would cope out, imho

PS. I a now at the 3. series, Charlotte´s wedding to Tray

I agree that those characters were more vibrant. And you must be attracted to people that are larger than life. But Aiden had tons and tons of quiet charm. He was intelligent and romantic. He handled her bullshit with dignity and grace until she went too far. Not everyone wants a cartoon. I want the boy who ran a bath with candles and had to be convinced to get in.

dignity and grace .... I dont know.... if you think of the other one they are bland, their dignity and grace will bore you instead of fall for them? I mean, dignity and grace are good traits, but if you do them as a default (because you are not capable of anything else, will dignity and grace be still desirable and admirable? - in romantic sense, not as friends smile

Honestly? I can't say for sure if I would be bored of Aiden, or want to kick him around a bit just to make sure he is still alive. I can't really say.. I think he is awesome in theory but in reality? I am probably more of a girl who would prefer being tortured by Big. That's my confusion, Aiden is relief from torture but does that relief turn to boredom? You could very well be right.

Ive read somewhere some opinion, that Carrie wanted to change Big

I think Carrie didnt want to change big, just his behaviour towards her..... otherwise she loved what he was for as an individual (imho)

but who tried to change someone, was Aidan with Carrie - he tried to change not only her affection towards him (because it seems he was quite sure she loved him most of the time, he didnt freak out on little details and questioned it - until the wedding thing) and wanted her to love countryside and his awful cabin, wanted her to improve and polish her flat whih she was okey with.... etc (not to mention the smoking! smile )

Big didnt want to change Carrie as a person (maybe because he didnt really care), but I think deep down Carrie was the only person for Big he can be relaxed around and have a connection, that is what he NEEDED, maybe

I agree, she didn't want to change Big, she just wanted more than anything for him to stop being so emotionally unavailable.

Yeah and Aiden lost me on the whole cabin thing, that was really obnoxious. Like that guy who made me sleep in a tent and then got annoyed when I woke him up sobbing in the middle of the night because I was badly burned, bitten, had a broken toe from the stupid woods AND I couldn't sleep because I was shivering and couldn't warm up..

It gave me flashbacks to THAT shit lol.

Carrie had a ton of what big needed. He needed realness, openness, devotion, emotion, the "red-panty-blue-eyed connection", someone on the town with him, someone who adapts to him (they had a private wedding in the end), someone who was mindful of his public image.

A closed off, young and fake Stepford Wife with extra money is the last thing the fool needed lol

my thoughts exactly

Big didnt even had friends (I remember some episode when Carrie was talking about telling her girls about them being back together, Big said he didnt announced it either to anyone and Carrie said it doesnt count as Big has no friends)

so thats one more reason why he couldnt let go off Carrie imho, she was the only real person who challenged him to be real and intimate, which he was not accustomed to

she didnt want him just to take her out for expensive dinners she wanted him to bare his soul, or something

I think Carrie was the only one who really cared about him which he didnt realise for a long time maybe

I remember some time, when Carrie was leaving for Paris with the Russian, Big came around and asked Carrie in a really offended way something like: when did you want to tell me you are moving?

it gets me all the time smile

Yup Carrie is very selfish not only in her relationships with men but with her girls, friends.

Let's just say : She deserves Mr Big.

agree on Carrie beig selfish and self-centered, even with her friends

do you agree tho that pairing Carrie up with Aidan (for 2 seasons!!) was a bit of strech? why Aidan, the loved character, would be with someone like Carrie and dont even questioning most of the time what she thinks and doing? (bare the wedding related things) and wanting to marry her?

the actor is ok, but the character is badly written, with no personality

(and I admit my homely looking fat comment was purely subjective and not really important) and I dont rate looks as the most important (see my post about Harry)

but true, if Iam thinking, why this flawless character Aidan would want to be with Carrie can be because Carrie pretended to love him and behaved like she loved him (but Aidan never even questioned it really)?

Because opposites attract? He's not the first guy who wants to pursue and commit to a woman who's not deserving of him.

Caution ⚠ Spoilers ahead.. I'm not sure how much you've watched or rewatched...(forgot)

He's not a flawless character but he's the one who treated her the best. He had his own issues: he was very pushy with Carrie.. Perhaps deep down he always knew she was eventually going to slip away.

And that's what bothered me. The fact that even after she cheated on him and he took her back... She's the one who called it quits.

I loved Aidan. I just wish things would have ended differently, he deserved better.

When satc starts you feel bad for Carrie because of how badly she has it from Mr big...

The worst written character was the Russian boyfriend. I hated every minute of it.

" He's not a flawless character but he's the one who treated her the best."

and that is what my main question was about: if to settle with someone just because he is nice to you. Like.... why? if you are not desperate? like this is a cautionary tale about not to settle, just because someone loves you and treats you well.... Aidan wan was in love, Carrie was just settling with someone who was nice to her, hurting Aidan in the process

and Aidan didnt even register it, until the wedding was off or until the cheating was revealed in a previous series

thats why I am glad Carrie and Big ended up together at the end, both being selfish and self-centered, and compatible

(I am rewatching, I know the whole series by heart smile

the Russian lover was awful, the whole story was totally unbelievable.... but that was just sloppy writing, I mean in season 6, Carrie was paired up with an annoying kid Burger and the equally badly written obnoxious Petrovsky) It was not clear at all, what Petrovsky would see in Carrie, so it wasnt believable

The worst written character was the Russian boyfriend. I hated every minute of it.

" He's not a flawless character but he's the one who treated her the best."

and that is what my main question was about: if to settle with someone just because he is nice to you. Like.... why? if you are not desperate?

Well no, it's much better watching her cry and act desperate for 6 seasons hunting down Mr. Big Laughing

No, I don't think she should have ended with Aidan but I loved his character.

I simply wish he didn't take her back at all.

When she meets him again at the bar, my hope was for him to let her rot smile

I'm glad she ended up with Mr. Big, like I said ... they deserve each other Winking
Cmon. Big is SUCH a scorpio. He was a total dick that only settle for Carrie after he had exhausted all his hot model options. I bet their marriage would realistically not last 2 years. Aiden is a Taurus and Carrie is Pisces with Aries influence.

I could never get into this show. Desperate Housewives was so much better ❤

You're missing out lol

I watched SATC once the show was already over.

Today it's no biggie ...but I remember when it still aired everyone talking about the taboo subjects the show covered

( sacred late 90's....early 2000's)

Samantha was and always will be my fav. Love

I really like Desperate Housewives

I was now just thinking (while rewatching SATC), that the actor who played the politician in SATC (the pee one), played Victor who run for a mayor in DH (Gabby married him)

and Trey (Charlotte´s husband from SATC) went on to play Orson (Bree´s husband) - altough I couldnt find a similarity with their charcaters so far (maybe that both were doctors and married classy ladies)

the best love scene, so sweet
