Before I jump on my soapbox/rant, here's a background on a few things.

I am a big animal lover. I was a vegan for 3 months and have a deep respect for people that can choose and maintain this kind of life style .

However, vegans have just gone WAY too far these last few years. The level of their extremeness is scary. They've deevolved into those right-wing christian fundamentalists that shove their way of life in your face whenever an opportunity presents itself.

I've gotten a whole lecture from a ex roommate for ordering meat pizza just because tofu didnt sound very appealing.

Here's what took me off of being a vegan in the first place. I have been raised on meat all my life. Till at one point, viewing some slaughterhouse footage of animals turned me off completely.

So I became a vegan and was doing pretty good. Then one day, I helped some friends move. Being this is the south, the heat was excruciatingly bad. So all that moving worked up an appetite. Problem was my friends had cooked barbecue and had nothing else ala snacks as substitutions for me to eat. I decided to starve, But after a long while, the smell of birsket and honey barbecue became too much to resist.

And I finally caved. Did I ever. I was eating like a man who'd been in prison for 10 years having sex again. When it was all over, I was ashamed of myslef. But came to a realization. I really like meat too much to give it up for good. Most importantly, even if I dont eat meat, someone always will. The world will never be 100% vegetarian. So my meat eating savagry resumed.

Here's what these overzealous vegans dont realize. Raving finished next post...

A) Some people don't have enough money to buy the food required to get all the nutrients the human body needs with out meat B) Meat is far cheaper and far more filling than tofu, and mass amounts of veggies. C) The human brain is made of and requires protein. While we don't need giant steaks, a little bit of meat is very important

D) It is considered child abuse to force small children into a vegan diet because it can hinder proper brain and muscle development (imagine giving an infant soy milk rather than regular formula which has lactose from milk) E) What a person eats is a personal choice and vegans needs to get themeselves off their high horse! Just because you have enough money to choose what you eat doesn't mean every one does!!!

i have a few hard-core vegan friends myself but they would never dream of trying to tell others how to run their lives.

i am not condoning nor condemning carniverous habits but i have noticed that my vegan friends (not vegetarian) are all rather sickly. now these ppl all have the most active and healthy life style s but u can just tell that their body is seriously lacking certain things that u would otherwise attain from animals or animal by-products.

one real good friend of mine was a perfect example. she took extremely good care of herself (she's a virgo mind u), was on a strict exercise regimen, practiced holistic/all-natural methods, and was a devout vegan. her body was ok with this for about a year. then all of a sudden her health begin to decline. she was having major skin problems, was always coming down with a cold, and had IBS-like symptoms. she felt like crap for months. she knew that being vegan would deprive her of certain nutrients and vitamins but she would take whatever she lacked in pill/powder form. it didn't help. after about a year with her health in limbo she finally decided to hit up a doctor (of course a holistic one). the doc ran some tests and it showed that even though she tried to make up for it, her body was still severely malnourished and malnutritioned. her body had a difficult time absorbing the pills and powders apparently. her doctor even advised her to at least go vegetarian. so now she is. she is now better than ever! she did always have a deep love for cheese anyway so this made her happy.

what i honestly gather from all of this is that we need to take everything in moderation.

Sometimes people just don't know what the fuck they are talking about. This shit pisses me off. I don't eat meat. I haven't since I was 10. BUT that is MY choice and I'd never "preach" to anyone who chooses to eat meat.

What really gets me is people who have no fucking clue what they are talking about and get their information from a book written by an obviously biased author then turns around spouting off basically bullshit. It makes them look foolish

I grew up on a farm and I know many so called "factory" farmers. Windowless prisons. Riiiiiigggghht. If people used one fucking iota of common sense you'd know that treating an animal poorly no matter if they are being raised a pet or being raised for food is entirely without benifits. An unhappy animal with not "produce" anything. These animals are farmers bread and butter. How would it benifit them to put them in these types of enviorments (windowless prisons) and "beat" them. Yes, many animal rights activist claim they are beaten on a regular basis. Makes sense *smirk*

"Hey timmy I'm bored.... let's go down to the barns and beat the pigs" Sounds like a plan!!! 😉
Pigs have always been raised in a "tight" enviorment. There really is no such thing as free range pigs. They have always been put into small pens ... since man has domesticated animals this is the way pork has been raised. Cattle are more free range so to speak. There are LAWS that prohibits a farmer packing too many cows into a certain amount of acerage.

Shit like that DOES happen don't get me wrong. But it's few and far between most especially for farmers. They depend on those animals.

Dairy farming has been deemed "evil" and that's the biggest crock of them all!!!!!!! My neighbors raised dairy cows. The cows are only brought inside to milk twice a day and then returned to the pasture. Sounds gruelling huh? Milking takes about 15 to 20 min which in that time a cow is fed grain or hay while she is milked. Another urban legend is that milking is painful to cows. LOL LOL Fact is if a cow (most especially the dairy breeds) is not milked her bag will fill up, become sore and even has a chance of exploding in rarer cases or she'll develop masstitiss (sp?). I've yet to see a dairy cow bulk at being milked. In fact our neighbors cows would be standing at the gate when they knew it was time to milk and even though they had herding dogs, the cows went into the barn without any urging.

Natalies friend from Iowas breathing conditions have jack shit to do with farming. Pig manure has long been an organtic way to help the soil with crops. I guess I was lucky that I'm a healthy person though I grew up right across a cornfeild that was regularly sprayed down. I'm a native Iowan and ironically it's was always us farm kids who were healthy (better immune systems ) then the town kids. We were exposed and our immunes systems stregthened.

My suggestion is inform yourselfs or better yet go an visist these so called horror farms before making assumptions based on an author who had probably never set foot on a real working farm.

Sorry for the rant but wow.... this is something that hit's "home" in a big way.

BTW my passionate post wasn't toward anyone here 😉 Just the holier then thou Hollyweird types that tell you to go green but fly around in private jets and such.

Perhaps they don't realize or care for that matter that farming is still some people's means of income. But.... as long as you "follow" their lead onto the next "fad" it doesn't seem to bother them. That's irritating to me.
