Adultry

For what I understand, Joseph and Mary weren't married when Jesus was concieved.
I thought that sex out of wed-lock was adultry?
According to the story, while it's true they weren't married, they didn't have sex. Mary was impregnated by god directly. THis is why he sent an angel to Joseph to inform him not to act against Mary for becoming pregnant out of wedlock. They WERE engaged so to speak.
But an interesting translation occurs in different faiths... Catholics believe that after Mary had Jesus, she NEVER had sex EVER... remaining a virgin the rest of her life. Protestants believe that after having Jesus, she and Joseph had sex and had many other children. The bible actually says they did and Jesus had brothers and sisters... but Catholics demand this is a misunderstanding, LOL. Christians can be really weird.
See, I thought that Jesus had siblings.
Still, though, if what we are suppose to believe is that sex out of wed-lock is a sin, then why would this be given to us as an example?
Thinking about the time frame . . would Joseph even be allowed to marry a woman who gave birth out of wed-lock? Did they secretly get married? If so, then society would think that all of the children were illegitmate. I thought that women who were "whores", as they were called back then, lived in shame and no man was allowed to marry them. I could be wrong.

P-angel,
they didnt get married in secret, ( When Joseph found out that Mary was pregnant, he was kinnda shocked himself coz they never had sex but an angel of god appeared to him and revealed heavenly father's plan to him about the savior and all and so he didnt have any problem getting married to her coz he knew that it was the Son of God that Mary was carrying and she was a virgin....

the bible says ' joseph went up to bethlahem with Mary, his ESPOUSED wife, being great with child ( luke 2:5) ( they were married)

What I meant was, society views. I know that Joseph knew that Mary was carrying the son on God . . but, in those times, I thought that the community wouldn't allow it. Just as I thought that if a husband died . . a woman couldn't marry again because men couldn't take a wife who wasn't pure.
>Just as I thought that if a husband died . . a woman couldn't marry again because men couldn't take a wife who wasn't pure.
A dead husband actually freed a woman to marry again. THe old testament allowed men to divorce their wives by simply sending them a letter of divorce. But I think the woman was not allowed to remarry as long as her ex was alive. I'm writing this from memory so could have some of the details mixed up.
In the NEW testament, men or women are only allowed to remarry if the ex has died OR, if the ex was or has become a NON-believer. Again, if I remember correctly.
Back when I went to missionary school, I asked one of the schools teachers how he was able to justify being divorced and remarried, and he said only "it's not an unforgiveable sin" and he had to take the chance that god would forgive him if he otherwise lived a godly life.
then God broke his own rule and was an adulter?

And it came to pass that the God of heaven looked upon the residue of the people, and he wept; and Enoch bore record of it, saying: How is it that the heavens weep, and shed forth their tears as the rain upon the mountains?

God broke his own rule and was an adulter?
God is an unchangeble being and never breaks his own rules EVER
So, if a woman is free to marry again, if her husband has died . . .
Mary gave birth to a child of wed-lock, in the eyes of society . . she had sinned . . yet, was allowed to marry Joseph. That makes no sense.
Why would SHE be allowed and nobody else? I'm not talking about God's perspective. I'm talking about societies. I appreciate all the answers you all are trying to give me, but, they just justify through God's eyes as to why this was allowed.
As far as the people in town know, here's this woman who just birthed a bastard child, and nobody even notices? She's allowed to just prance around town and nobody is throwing rocks at Joseph for keeping a whore?
It doesn't make sense. It's really not until Jesus is older (14, I think) the year of reckoning that people begin to understand exactly who he really is. AT the time of his birth, most people didn't know this.
So, I still don't get it. I don't get how this illegitmate birth is acceptable to the people living in their community? It's just overlooked, Joseph and Mary can just carry on like respectable people.
>God is an unchangeble being and never breaks his own rules EVER
I know christians like to think this, but it's just not true. God changed a LOT over the course of the Bible. Reading Miles book will enlighten you in that reguard.
>Mary gave birth to a child of wed-lock, in the eyes of society . . she had sinned . . yet, was allowed to marry Joseph. That makes no sense.
The implication is, that none else knew about the pregnancy except Mary and Joseph. And Joseph only because an angel told him. She and Joseph were "engaged" but not actually married yet. Also, there is no mention of a marriage cerimony as far as I remember, so it's implied that they just went ahead with their planned marriage after the angel set Joseph straight.
But as I've been away from it so long, maybe I'm forgetting a fact or two here... doing this all from memory.
And although fornication was a stoneable offence, getting married to make it legal so to speak was acceptable, again... if I remember correctly.
God changed a LOT over the course of the Bible
HE DID NOT...it was the israelites who, to cause fear, made him a 'SCARY' God but uh uh.. he never was that way... even to Moses he commanded to tell the children of israel to love God and your fellowmen....Thats all he wants of us but i dont know why people just make the gosple soooo much complicated....
O.K. who married Adam and Eve? And if Cain went to the land of NOD and he was a child of adam and eve who was his wife? a monkee? a sister his I talking about incest? a Lot of questions here. Also even though the flood appers in some Books about 3000 years before Noah was born, if him and his faimly were the only people left on earth, a lot of cusion humping going on here. at the step of separation.
I guess those West Virginians got it all right, then don't they?
. . . incest is best, and apparantly approved by God, lol
you being an angel I was hopeing you would answer the questions we ask of the God Guy?
Yes, I know the answer, jt . . . are you ready for the answer?
There is no God . .
. . and I was sent down here by a group of 'humanatarians' (that's how the name came into existence - humanatarian) on the "Mother Ship", who believes that unfair treatment to animals should be abolished. "They" snuck me off the ship to inform everyone of their error in believing something false. See, "they" thought that if I came as an Angel, then everyone would fall to thier knees and bow before me . . . see, so that's the message I bring to these good earthlings . . .
. . God is a fabrication, to pull the wool over our eyes, so we won't see the truth of our existence, which is . . we are lab rats !!!!

LOL. Here's what I think we are. We're a VERY advanced from of a GAME for the Gods. Along the lines of Everquest, World Of Warcraft, Asherons Call, the Sims... etc. We are the toons and they pull a lot of the strings. We have some free choice, but they control many of the directions. This is how they keep from getting bored with their lives. They don't want us to know the truth, because it would ruin their game. That's why they won't talk with us, or when they do, it's one sided, with them talking and us listening.

you know what i believe.....WE ARE GODS and we know not smile
They were married. They didn't have sex until AFTER Jesus was born. Don't like it? Take it up with God. It's His kid. smile
Adultery Sux.
