Sagittarius children...is it really this hard?

I'm a mum to a 5yr old Sag boy and boy oh boy is he a handful. I'm a Libra so I like equalibrium to balance my life out, but I'm finding Sag baby just so full of gusto and energy, but it's mis-directed. He started school this year and we are now in the 3rd Semester and nothing has changed for him, still at an average reading level, not interested in maths but as soon as sports, out door activities occur, he's in like flynn.
Any other people out there parents to Sag baby's and if so, how do you give them balance of what they actually need to do at school and what is fun is 2 different elements of life.
Reward chart has gone out the window because reading was apart of that and in he's logic, prefer not to get the gold star if I have to read.
I've got a long road ahead of me I think with Mr mini Sag, any help would be greatly appreciated.
One tired Libra mummy.
He's 5 and you're already bombarding his brain with math and reading? lol You're expecting too much out of a kindergartener. He's a little child. Of course having fun is more important to him than studying.
What's waiting for him at the end of those gold stars? Do you have some kinda prize prepared for him? I've always thought reward charts were kinda condescending. Kids don't want to feel manipulated into doing things.

aww he's being a kid. put him in some sports, hes already provided you with what he wants to do. PLAY. not mess around with some silly numbers. if u want some balance in a 5 year olds life, try sports and math together. or sports and reading.
throw away da reward chart. ain't no need to give him rewards for doin things he suppose to be doin. sooner or later he'll come to expect rewards every time he get his butt to school in da morning. u plantin da idea in his head dat he dont gotta do nothin unless there's sumthin in it for him. when he becomes older dat menatality is gonna harm him and those around him. verbal praise works better in da long run. overdo it. stroke da shit out of dat ego. show him love without attachin conditions. tell him u believe in him. tell him he's better than this. no kid in their right mind is gon say no im not better than this. i was da type of kid who would do anythin for some positive attention and praise so it might work on him... also try not to nag.
oh my, my daughter is 9 and all I hear from her teachers is that she doesn't focus, she is getting better now that she is older but when she first started school she once fell asleep cause the teacher was boring to her she told me Lol. School just started where I live about two weeks ago and she is doing good so far getting all 5 stars on her work so just give him time it will get better.
I'm an education freak as well so I feel you Hails. But...this is a 5 year old boy. Let him run around and act a fool. It will all come together. As a Sag physical activity is always something we love, so keep that in mind.
And like DMV suggested, mix the academics with the sports if it's something that really concerns you. But he's a baby lol. Leave him be.
As a child I had a wild imagination. I could play with the girls and be one of the boys. I was a creative and free spirit. I work blue gym shoes with green pants! I had wild hair and semi-buck teeth! LOL.
My mom made sure we had "fun" things to do. I lost my attention span quickly so she had some wild ideas on how to keep me(and my sisters...and Aries and a Taurus) occupied.
We made crafts, sang in the rain, played with other kids, jumped rope, made mud pies and basically just had a ball!
Keep letting your son expierement (within reason of course)
