The US gives billions of dollars annually in aid to other countries, provides humanitarian support, forgives the debt of other countries and lends troops in times of military conflict.

The above ^^^^ is something that other countries rarely do, if ever .. and IF another country does, it's because they are expecting something in return .. hence: not for humanitarian purposes.

funny little story about comares where i live. it's a tiny, whitewashed, typically andalucian village steeped in tradition. they are all mostly in-bred but that's a whole different story.

there is a glut of unattached spanish men in the village and a shortage of unattached women and they've obviously run out of cousins to procreate with too cos the mayor organised a bus load of single, divorced and widowed women from a town along the coast called fuengirola to come to comares for a spot of speed dating LOL (obviously with a view to marriage and blah, blah, yeah right!).

on the day of the 'jolly', all the available men in comares got dressed up in their best goat-herding outfits and assembled at the comares fiesta which was taking place the same day.

no bus arrived. apparently, only 20 women turned up and the bus was a 50 seater. it was looking like it could easily get out of hand with that ratio of women to men, particularly in this heat - and so the 'event' was cancelled. LMAO.

to add insult to injury, the mayor was questioned as to the misappropriation of council funds HAHAHAHHAA!!!

Traveling is in my blood, I think its because my Saggie grandmother loved travel. When she was younger, she was very adventurous. My mother thinks I get all my craziness from her. My cancer/leo grandmother was a go-er but she was a bit more stable.

My great grandmother (who was a virgo/libra) loved travel too, but she wasn't as spucky as the Saggie granny 😉

I love experiences new places having grass grow under my feet isn't an option. The only reason I'm staying put now is because of work 😉 My personality is very push-pull, although I don't like staying in one place too long, having no stablity bothers me.

Well, it's not so much the fault of the American people as the government here. The U.S. government prefers its subjects, I mean citizens, uninformed and unable to think critically -- better for manipulating them and garnering their unwavering support for a "war against terror". Look where we're at now. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080710/pl_nm/usa_surveillance_dc<BR>
Where is democracy? Most Americans don't even realize they are living under some regime. Really, Americans deserve what they get for being so uninformed and apathetic toward the rest of the world. And actually, the end of U.S. neocolonialism throughout the world couldn't happen soon enough, though a lot of the damage the U.S. has caused is irreversible and will continue to have implications on international relations for centuries to come.

"Where is democracy? Most Americans don't even realize they are living under some regime."

Democracy is a myth. And right now...it's a mess. I do wish the US government would concentrate more on perfecting the system here, rather than forcing it on other countries.

"Really, Americans deserve what they get for being so uninformed and apathetic toward the rest of the world."

Agreed. Although, I don't think people realize how one-sided and filtered our media is. Even those who think they're getting the news, are really not. It's ridiculous.

However, assuming that all Americans are uninformed about the world around us is a stereotype. We're not all fat and stupid. You have to consider the population size here. Yes, there are a lot of people who fit the stereotype, but there are also a lot of people who are intelligent, well-informed and interested in other cultures. If you prefer to see in only dimension, then that is all you will see. If your country were the same size, you would have more people like this as well. In fact, you do now, it's just on a smaller scale. 😉

The size and location of this country is also a factor as far as being exposed to other cultures. It isn't like Europe, kids. We can't take a train for a couple hours and visit another country like you can over there. A trip to Europe is a luxury only the very wealthy can afford. If you pay my way, I'll gladly immerse myself in any culture you like. 😛
