Posted by GetMistedlmao yeah they emailed me saying orientation was 9-1, and the garage near the building charged $ 27 for 4 hours+
$ 27 to park?!
Fuck that.

Posted by GetMistedAgree too.Posted by tizianiPretty sound employment advice.
Don't let the world lie to you like that
it was probably some jobsworth that promised his girlfriends' friend and favour and said "the first person who gives me a reason, I'll can them. Then the work is yours ok?"
At the end of the day, it pays to be well liked. It's also even better to have skill and the know how for the job. Both are useless without the other. Any idiot telling youmotherwise just wants the food off of your plate, so just forget them. Find a place where people like working around you for both the person you are and the person they want you to be. Life's too short for anything else.

Honestly, from the get-go the organization was very disorganized. They had me come up to orientation on October 1. I contacted them twice via email to confirm, and once I got there and paid $ 27 for parking, they said they didn't know I was coming and that I was late. I got there at 8 and was supposed to be there at 9, but the main office was calling the wrong person the entire time that I waited. They didn't get a hold of her until 9:30, so it appeared as though I was late. I was not happy about it obviously, as I drove an hour to get there, paid for parking, and then this lady (and the office) acted like they were completely disorganized. Sure, it was during Mercury retrograde, but come on now. It's not that complicated to get your act together. Maybe it's because I was born in Mercury retrograde I have no sympathy for their disorganization, or maybe I just have no sympathy because they are a major transportation organization in Chicago so they should probably have their act together.
Onto the reason I actually lost the position. I work retail, so Best Buy of course was open on Thanksgiving. I wouldn't be able to really meet with family. Turns out my family from Iowa came in a day early to surprise me! Since it was a surprise, my family didn't tell me until Wednesday. I was on my way to the CTA when they called to tell me. My aunt has heart disease, so I like to see them whenever I can. I called my supervisor and told him about it and that I'd like to spend time with them since I can't for Thanksgiving and apologized for being so last minute and that I didn't know they were even coming in town since they usually just stay in Iowa. They only gave me 15 allotted hours to work and I had already worked 12, so I would've only been able to work 3 hours that day anyways. I figured it would be fine since it's a holiday and whatnot. Sike. The next Monday, the head of the internship program called me and said that they would not be able to continue with me because of my call off and that I don't work up to 15 hours per week. I usually worked 8 hours per week, because I'd go for a full day, once a week since I have classes throughout the week and work elsewhere. They never asked if I could work more or anything. They said the hours were fine that way, and I'd come in on Fridays whenever I could so I could get 12-15 hours a week too some weeks. The intern head said that "they prefer not to have inconsistencies". I totally get that too, but wouldn't it have been advisable to let me know prior? Could I not have received some sort of warning? And I never knew that a call off was unacceptable there. In orientation they told us if we had to call off to call our supervisor (which I did), and it would be fine.
