"rich orange sorbets smothered in fluffy whipped cream"
Is negative—
In fact, even just the sight and smell of whipped cream gave you adrenal fatigue.
You now can no longer hang out with your best friends when they tell you everyone's invited to Saturday's regular meetup at the male strippers and whipped cream party.
Wouldn't you blame the person responsible for taking that from your life? Blame the smotherer.click to expand

To me word 'smothering' meant entirely covering SOMETIING as I've heard it on cooking show while she was smothering tort with icing.
So...I took this as a positive when apparently it wasn't.
It happened a while ago but until now I can't hear this word without laughing!
We've talked about it and he said I WAS suffocating him but he loved it.
So he actually used it as I understood the word but apparently he isn't big fan of cooking shows. ?

So do you always use 'smothering' with negative meaning?
kill (someone) by covering their nose and mouth so that they suffocate.
synonyms: suffocate, asphyxiate, stifle, choke
"she tried to smother her baby"
extinguish (a fire) by covering it.
synonyms: extinguish, put out, snuff out, dampen, douse, stamp out, choke
"we smothered the flames"
cover someone or something entirely with.
"rich orange sorbets smothered in fluffy whipped cream"

So my favorite meaning is covering someone entirely with...like love and admiration. Worshiping someone. Being entirely selfless. Submissive.
Your take on it please...
