The conversations within the threads concerning marriage got me thinking.
What are our basic human needs, besides food, water, sex, and shelter?
I'll start:
1. The need to love - Every person wants to be loved and show love. Consider the infant, and what can occur if it is not offered affection.
2. The need for autonomy - We wish to govern ourselves and feed our impulses.
3. The need to feel accepted - No one wants to be lonely.

4. leisure - all work and no play makes jack a crazy mutherfucker
5. a sense of purpose - hence the creation of religion, and delusions of grandeur
6. hope

Let's See ...
1. (like SS) I need to love -- this isvery odd because I feel that I need to bestow love on the person that I want and that equally wants me. It can't be one-sided.
2. My time -- I'm around people all day, I need time to myself in order to regroup
3. I need the approval of those closest to me.

All of the above responses are interesting, and thank you.
However, I was referring to the human species, as opposed to individual needs.
