Branh, taxes— that is the only reason why you don't like Canada. Thanks to those taxes we have health care, good schools, etc. We also dont have much of the ghettos that you would see in the States............because of taxes. The focus for Americans is just to make it in life, very consumer driven.......it often makes for a highly competitive and phony culture.

Maybe a socialist counrty isn't such a bad thing, in my opinion anyways.

And as for rural homogenous areas, I don't know but from what I remember driving through the U.S it seemed preety homogenous to me as well. Besides Canada is beautiful not homogenous.

Shit I never knew I was so patriotic.

I just got back from there last weekend, I have lost my fascination for the place.

Branh, do you think that private health insurance is free? No, I didn't think so. I would rather chip in my share in the form of tax, than pay into a system that should never be operating for profit. Also yours is a system where they can pull the rug right out from under you if you appear..."too risky" aka seriously ill. We show a card, and we receive treatment, no questions asked, no bill to pay. It is our birthright, and we contribute as a society so that every single one of us has the same right. I don't know of another civilized country other than the United States that doesn't provide it's people with this most basic, essential service.

Well you are on the taurus thread, so basically it makes sense that we are happy here in all the beautiful land, trees, plently of water and privacy. Bulls also like security, and Canada is well, really safe, friendly and full of peacemakers. We also are a land of diversity and culture. This has inspired personally as an artist and a writer. Big aggressive Americans have really turned me off, although I do know a lot of people from there, and would not put them in that A-hole group. There's always a few bad apples to ruin the bunch, and name. I have travelled the states a lot in my life and have really enjoyed it, but it is much different than Canada in the vibe it gives off. I guess it's all personal preference, but you would definately miss out if you rule out Canada, as a great country.

I was talking about branh0913, Sagbabe.

And branh0913, I did say I have travelled the states and know Americans which I love. Just some really turn people off with their attitudes, and I KNOW I am not alone in feeling that way. People get their reputations for a reason. Now, I wish people wouldn't generalize like that, because there is always some good. If you are so American proud, then make sure that people see you as a good American, and more people will see you in a good light. It starts with you. Another thing, very important, is to respect other countries and nations.

lol this is too funny!
Branh, you are ignorant. Every time you type, you prove how little you know about the wider world around you. And you contradict yourself so often it is unbelievable. I am not going to point out all the little inconsistencies in today's ramblings though. They are pretty apparent. As for economics, it depends on what kind of course you take, doesn't it. If all you study is monetarism and Keyensian theory, then your views will be slanted, won't they? Nice brown shirt, by the way.

This is one of your best quotes yet, brahn! Thanks!
"You can't sustaini any type of quality of life in socialism without 1) closing your borders 2) becoming racist and xenophobic towards outsiders (the more exclusion the better) 3) worshipping the government."

1) closing your borders.......like the US? Against imports, against immigration, against anything that isn't American.

2) becoming racist and xenophobic ..... like you when you go on your aniti-multiculturalism rants?

3) worshipping the government.... Unlike the States, we do not "stand behind our leader" when they are being twats. No "hail to the cheif" here. We get rid of them, as we are doing right now. That is how a multi party democracy is supposed to work.

How do market-driven economies give incentive for productivity and work ethic? Oh yes, by driving prices down, laying people off, and manufacturing cheap crap off shore. That works. Pfft. There is no such thing as job security or a safety net in your world, branh. You are on a high wire with a strong wind blowing. But that's ok. I hear they are hiring in Bangalore.

Here is a snippet from the United Nations "World-Wide Quality of Life Survey" to dispel any fears of the effects of uncontrolled socialism in Canada.

North America
All of the Canadian cities covered by the survey appear in the top 20 rankings for personal safety and security. Calgary, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, and Vancouver rank jointly in position 18 with scores of 112.

In the US, Honolulu, Houston, Lexington, San Francisco, and Winston Salem rank highest in joint 45th position with scores of 104. Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, Portland, and New York all follow in 58th place with scores of 100. The lowest scoring city in North America is Atlanta, ranked 90 with a score of 90.5, due to street crime and burglary.

In Mexico, Monterrey and Mexico City rank 87 and 126, scoring 92 and 72.5 respectively.

By the way....wasn't your pre-secondary education paid for by the government? Is that not a social program? It is, as a matter of fact. You keep advocating that people stay in school, and you are right. I don't think that you would argue that tax dollars should not go to pay for education. They can be used to provide a lot of other necessities and benefits as well, as they do in Norway...the most liveable country in the world. But you would rather hang on to your hard earned dollar. I hear a greenback goes pretty far in Bangalore.

Yes, you probably do have more of a grip on textbook economics than I do. I admit that it was not my specialty. But you have zero compassion and virtually no common sense. They don't teach that at university. If you want to live in a "dog eat dog" world, or believe in some weirdo form of Social Darwinism, just remember, there will be bigger, badder dogs than you....always. You did not get where you are without "bleeding heart liberals" and people who fought hard for social equality and change and you damn well know this. So just stop pissing on them and count your blessings.
