From my experience even though Taurus do tend to come on really strong at times that just means they are really interested. I would say just go with the flow of things and give it a try, it won't hurt to spend time with him. If he isn't being completely genuine or his intentions are off, you will sense it soon enough and that's when you'll know if you need to keep him at bay or slow things down
Also he could've been eyeing you for a long time before approaching you. I've had Taurus men watch me for months online and not make their move but slowly they do. I guess that's why they come on so strong once they do approach because they take time to think it over first.
