Like you, my experience with a Sag was long distance, (4 hours)..He did complain about the distance here & there, but I always told him "You knew what you were getting into from the beginning, changing stripes won't help you now"..as time went on, & a number of visits later..he broke up with me after I voiced my discomfort of him having a plethora of calls & texts coming in from his female "friends" & exes. I asked him if it was necessary to entertain the fan club, of course he'd just brush it all aside with the: "its not me its them.". I wrote a book explaining more under Sutek's(3.0) "Taurus Women experience with Sagittarius men"
Luckily, he had respect for the words "I love you" and only expressed it to people when he meant it. We didn't get to that "Love Level yet", but it was growing and on the tip of my tongue. Had he loosely said "I love you" to me, and didn't mean it romantically, he wouldn't have a mouth or teeth to speak from lies anymore. Your Sag was pretty fucked up for doing that. Taureans don't play with those words. Sag play around too much.
My conclusion is: that Sag men are nice to have as friends, Bffs, wingmen..etc. Just don't give these men your earthly heart. Unless you like Perpetual wanderers, and flirts.
