I'm a Leo. My best friend used to be Taurus, who I've known since I was 5, so almost 20 years. He's an alcoholic now, so we're not friends anymore, but I was thinking about why we were. I've had a number of closish Taurus friends throughout my life, and I observed today that I think the reason I tend to take up friendships with them isn't because we understand things about each or anything, but because we don't. There seems to be sort of a mutual respect thing where it's like wow, I don't get this person at all, but they're still cool I guess. I think our differences resulted in a lot of humor, and thats what kept us being friends. That fact that he's an alcoholic now though pretty much ruins everything. I just thought I would share.

I didn't post here to be judged and ridiculed. I've learned my lesson and this is my last post in the Taurus section.

"I didn't post here to be judged and ridiculed"
Aren't you judging and ridiculing your friend because he's an alcoholic?
Many of my friends and teachers were Leos.
We never agreed on anything. My time with them has taught me alot about life and people. I do not know if they had the same experience.
Even now I remember them fondly.

Alright, now that people are being somewhat respectful, I will post again. No I am not judging my friend. Judging him would be assuming he was an alcoholic from the way he looks and the music he listens to, even though he really wasn't one. He is one, and it's made it really hard for me to be his friend, so I've decided not to be. I don't see how thats judging.

Alright HP, but in that sense, how is judging a person wrong? He drinks too much for my standards, and his behavior is noticeably affected by it even when he isn't drinking or drunk in my opinion, and I don't feel safe around him. Therefore I've made the judgement that he should not be my friend, and for good reasons. I don't think there is anything unfair about that.

Abandoning an alcoholic is sometimes just what he/she needs to 'come around'. Alcoholics need dependents to keep going. When they no longer have a 'life line' for dependency, many are forced to wake up, see the light and take responsibility for their problem.
I am not saying banini is right or wrong, I don't know the ins and outs of their friendship and what road it has taken. I'm just saying you got to do what you got to do and if this is what banini feels is right for him/her, then no one should be judging that decision.
