Learning to play a wind instrument. Whoo boy. Remember? The squeals and screeches that sent dogs baying and bats circling overhead. Then you slowly get better and actually make MUSIC. Nothing like it.

Oh man the screeches were the worst. And It wasn't any better when I picked up the violin...I'd have random kids walk past me with their hands over their ears...When I wasn't even playing lol. When I was playing the clarinet I remember having to stay later so this guy I sorta had a crush on could "help me out" lol . I was well aware that I sucked but I just wanted to spend time with him. Anyways for some reason he wanted to use my clarinet but with his mouth piece. As he pulled mine off there was soooo much saliva in it kinda oozed out onto his hand. That was the last time we ever spoke.

But I love making music...I have garage band on my computer and I love fiddling around with things.

Nothing like killing a love interest than to watch saliva ooze from his mouthpiece to his hand...not good imagery! Hahahaaa. Aww, the woes of learning an instrument! I love music too. I can't imagine life without it. I am not a person that cries very often at all, but if I hear a song from my childhood, or I hear a song I love that is haunting and deep, I swear, I tear up! I really feel music so deeply. Le sigh...

*p.s. @ VB - I saw daBull sneak in the other day and make a comment; her ears must have been ringing, and yes, I'd love to share a seat with ya' across the pond πŸ™‚ *

Awwwwww nothing like some hot band nerd crushing. And since I was one, I can say that. πŸ˜„ The violin does make its own hellishness. LOL Ahhhh memories.

The same with music, it can transport you. That it's eternal is just a bonus. The composers are still fresh and vibrant from centuries ago as they are today. It moves you to emotional levels unheard of and makes you soar.

Hehehee USC. Hopefully the others on the plane are mentally prepared for the onslaught. πŸ™‚

I paint, I'm certainly no flaming grand artist but I can do craft type things like nobody's business. I cook, professionally and for personal pleasure. Have an occasional bit of money come in making cakes for children and graduations. I like cozy down time things like needlework and sewing. Like to garden and hound about for antiques. Write when the urge hits me over the head. Like to spread a smile. πŸ™‚ You?

πŸ™‚ I studied illustration, I've graduated 2 years ago so I'm still trying to figure out who I am as an artist.
besides eating chocolates in the dark alone, art is the only thing that makes me happy lol. Also I love to sew, I studied fashion in highschool but I'm so clumsy with machinary. I would break every sewing machine I touched. Which was actually a good thing because it helped me to discover my talent in art πŸ˜›

wow, my thread turned into band camp discussion! lol πŸ˜‰

I played flute in high school, just picked one up when I was 14 and fell in love with the sound.
I was first chair, then after 11th grade in hs, I decided I was too rockstar to be in orchestra πŸ˜›

I still play flute now sometimes, recorded some songs with it. πŸ˜„

I always wanted to try the flute. That and the Harp.

Try an older treadle machine, they built those babies to last. You should have seen me around last Christmas. I was making a heavy denim quilt and sewing the binding kept breaking needle after needle. I'm surprised the paint didn't peel off the walls I was swearing that much. Art is a beautiful thing. I wish I could make things come to life and breathe. When I draw it comes out cartoonish. It's decent, but not 'fine' art. That's what my mother can do. I always thought if I had but a fraction of that talent what fun it would be to illustrate books.
Eating chocolates in the dark isn't a bad gig either. πŸ˜‰

Kind of back on topic sort of/kind of/but not really πŸ™‚
I think that I can relate so much to Janet Jackson and her music (since she's a Taurus too πŸ™‚) because she has this total freaky side about her; yet, she comes across fairly demure and introspective (except when she's prancing around on stage little nips pop out - hahahaha).
I have this affinity towards her, because her songs are so sensuous and sexxy, even when they are sad and talking about heartache. She's a loner; whether she wants to be or not, she totally is, and I can SO relate to that - even though I have friends, I am very much a loner, and she's had horrible luck with relationships. I just so get her!

I played clarinet and saxophone. I loved to draw/paint when I was younger. I can sing ok. And I do cook very well; however, unlike VB, I DON'T want to cook for others unless I really like them. If I had a restaurant, it would serve like 10 people max, and the menu would change daily. Although, I did come up w/this concept for a Sport's Bar - my friends say I should do it, but I tell them there is little money in the food industry (restaurant profit margins are sh#t, that's why high-end restaurants push the liquor/wine, because that's where they primarily make their $ $ $ - just a quick econ lesson today).

Alright, I'm goofy today (for no reason), so I likely shouldn't post anymor today!!!

And you know what USC? You're right. And that's a good idea, but the overhead and so on is a crusher for a restaurant. Why so many have bars within. Bingo. I'd like to take where I'm working and go over it with a fine toothed comb. Not that it isn't a great place to work, but the inconsistencies ( new owners, oy ) and some of the *cough* 'ideas' they have should be deep sixed.

Prezactamundo! The prep load in that place is BIZARRE. I am 100% behind the homemade anything, but there are ways to be smarter about it, and they're not implementing that. Take desserts for example. No one was ordering them. Portions are huge, who has room? Strike one. Ordering them from elsewhere. Strike two, you cannot say everything from scratch when it isn't, and buddy to older customers know the difference. This is common sense people, get with it. So fine, hoorah, I was making pies ( but only for special occasions mind! Mother's Day, Easter, etc. ) They went like no ones business, had folks buying whole pies in fact. Scratch crust, REAL fillings. Sliced apples, made custards for chocolate, banana cream, real lemon curd for lemon meringues, you get the drift. Start to finish, hole in one. Then they say they're not moving, and scale back to frozen pie and a couple of cheesecakes and implement *drum roll please* MILKSHAKES. Strike THREE and outta da damned ball park! No shake machine, one blender in the bar. If the bartender is nipples deep in serving drinks and food are they going to want to take time out to make an effing shake? Ding ding ding! The answer is a rousing HELL NO. Not to mention they have fried no less than four blenders. Get an industrial blender or a shake machine, a proper one or GTFO with the nonsense! GAHHHHHHHHHHH.

Ugh, I just really hate when companies do sh#t half-a $ $ ed! I'm not talking small "starter up" business with no revenue and minimal start-up capital; I'm talking about companies who have been in business for YEARS and love, love, love to pay their VP's and Muckety Mucks huge bonuses, but will shudder to expend a little extra do actual stay AHEAD of their competition.
Ok...I'm getting on a roll here, so I'm going to stop. I'm having a good day today and I don't want to f@ck it up - just know I feel your pain; that's why I left the Corporate realm (you'll hear me harp on this ad nauseum). You get the point!

I feel you, and why it's a dream of mine to do things my way. Have my own place. I thought it would be quite nice to have a bakery. Nothing fancy, nothing too pretentious. No crystallized rose petals and gold leaf on chocolates. But old school desserts and baked goods. The ones that make your tongue have an orgasm. All those feel good things that Gramma and her mother, and maybe even her mother before that did. Scour every splattered recipe box from here to kingdom come and have people remember. And introduce younger generations to things they might not have had.
Walk into a nice, charming place and smell cinnamon rolls baking, cakes, cookies, pies, doughnuts, bars. Coffee in the air. I can see it all in my head, it's that real to me.

Baby, I believe in you, and when you not only see it in your head, but feel it in your heart, body and soul --- you WILL do it; guaranteed. Trust me, my dad had a small restaurant when I was growing up. Very similar to what you've described, and yes, he used the recipe for his rolls, cinnamon rolls and bread from his mother - my grand-mother πŸ™‚ Le sigh....(do it, do it, do it). Seriously, here is one of my new mantra's "I can accept failure, but I can't accept not trying." ~ Michael Jordan. Just food for thought.

πŸ™‚ Thank you! I'd seriously love too. Your fathers place I'd have frequented. Definitely. A place like that you build over time layer by layer, year by year. And the ease of familiarity, word of mouth. It all comes together and makes a business like that home for many. I've given this quite a bit of thought, and the only stumbling block is, with all the pre-packaged nonsense would they come to a place such as mine? Excellent Jordan quote, and it's really true. Usually the only thing stopping things is ourself.
