*******SPOILER ALERT*******

everything on the island actually happened. none of them were dead until they died.

^that is tough to wrap my head around and it's what makes me occasionally trip like "wow"...this shit is deep.

the casket? recall, locke was actually killed by linus. when he was "reborn" in the form of the smoke monster, it actually happened. the smoke monster took over locke's body because he wanted to get off the island. where is locke's body now? well, jack killed "smoke" when he shoved him off the cliff. locke's body is in the ocean BUT locke actually died when linus killed him in CA. get it?

so why is the casket empty? the smoke monster took over christian's body as well and just like locke, his body remains on the island.

everything that happened, happened.

the final season is an alternate reality. purgatory.

these specific characters (some were missing at the church) created this "world" so that they could all meet up when they were ready to go into the light.

they each died at different moments in time but for each of them, their happiest days were on the island...together. so in order for them to meet up again, those that died sooner than others had to walk the earth in this fog in order to explain them coming together. it wasn't until he made contact with the one person who would help him remember the reality...

jack died on the island 😢 when he's lying there watching the plane fly away, he's dying.

linus and hurley stay behind to protect the island. hurley IS the new jacob.

kate, sawyer, the pilot and that dude actually escape the island.

we don't know what happens to them. maybe kate goes on trial for murder? maybe they rekindle their romance? all you can do is speculate. what matters though is that they were happiest on the island and the church scene is about them coming together for a final farewell.

this typo was bothering me so i can back to correct it. i figured you would figure it out but UGH! damn OCD 😛

it wasn't until he made contact with the one person who would help him remember the reality...

it wasn't until jack made contact with the one person who could help him remember the reality that he was ready to go to the church.

same for juliet and sawyer. remember, juliet had that she was married to jack. that they had a son. she and jack had this fake marriage in purgatory because they both were dead. juliet died on the island and so did jack. but sawyer and kate had both got off the island at the end remember.

so juliet and jack were dead and they were living in this alternate world and waiting for the others to meet up with them. it wasn't until sawyer died that he could meet up with juliet. so that scene where sawyer is in the hospital and touches her...and remembers...

that could only happen if sawyer actually died. when did he die? dude, he could've died at the age of 90. we don't know. all we know is that for him and for her, the most precious moments of their lives were spent together.

so each character entered this purgatory at their own pace. some were in purgatory but had yet to meet up with the people that represented their happiest times. like that police officer chick...the latina (the one from swat). she wasn't at the church. why?

she was in purgatory because she died but the people/person who was most important to her were still living. maybe they weren't even on the island. maybe it was someone from back home. so she will continue to live in purgatory until that person dies and she meets up with them again.

it's really cool when you think about it.

ok done.

pffffffft

remember that scene where christian tells locke that he needs to go back to the states and bring back jack and the others because the island needs them?

that was actually christian's dead body, not some ghost. it was inhabited by the smoke monster. this is why i mentioned locke/smoke...to show you that it happened before.

in addition to christian/smoke appearing to locke, he also appeared to claire. remember, she left aaron and wandered off with "christian" whom she thought was her father? he did this so that he could eliminate her from jacob's list.

the point is, when they landed on the island, the casket was empty because the smoke monster took over christian's dead body. when jack is in the alternate reality/purgatory, his dad's body isn't in the casket because it can't be in the casket.

everything that happened, happened.

the smoke monster didn't climb back in the casket. they didn't transport the casket back to the states when they got off the island the first time. so christian's body is where the smoke monster left it...on the island.

you know how when you're sleep and dreaming, there's a moment right before you wake up when you realize you're actually dreaming? that's what happened with all the characters in the final season. none of them knew they were dead. they were in purgatory. it wasn't until they got to a point where something that absolutely could not be true occurred that they realized where they were.

ie kate helping to deliver claire's baby. how can she REdeliver aaron? they had already done it and if they had already done it, it means that they were "dreaming"/in purgatory. that's why their demeanor changed after they figured it out. a peace came over them.

if you look at the final again with this in mind, it's really cool...and sad. so many of them died in the end.

yeah, eko was cool. i was confused at first why all the people weren't at that church reunion but i think it's because either they had unfinished business (ben deciding not to go in because he wants to spend time with his daughter) or they had already made their peace (eko because he had already made peace with his past and his brother so there was nothing unfinished).

i kinda hated the way it ended because it wasn't a happy ending but i guess that's also what made it good. jack dying there, by himself, in the middle of nowhere though?

UGH! 😢

i still kinda don't get what the island really was. where the energy came from. how it healed people and all that. it would've been nice for that to be clearer but eh...
