Hello fellow neanderthals, cro-magnons and hominids(women).

I need some advice, preferably in the form of a debate on a quality semi-auto battle rifle. I'm toying with the thought of a Yugo SKS right now, but would love to see a debate unfold on this topic. I'm looking to spend $ 500 tops. I'm ideally looking for reliability, parts commonality and ammunition prices.

Any input? Any devil's advocates?

Cracking me up man

I'm understanding what you mean now and I agree. I think I'm set for a mosin at this gunshow. I'm excited to try it out, I've always thought bolt action rifles were great but my comfort zone is obviously with semi-autos. This will be an experience. I have yet to google the Mauser that you and Dj mentioned but will check that too.

It's kind of embarrassing because I feel like I should know more...but I'm looking forward to getting on the range. I've been putting away food, so next step is this mosin.

Well gents, the party's over as far as "cheap" Mosin Nagants are concerned.

POTUS & Co. have shut off the supply lines with their embargo. The time when you could amass a sizeable collection of Mosins affordably is gone. You might find some bargains, but the days of going to Cabela's (for example) and having a rack of 40 M91/30 refurbs to look over -- including everything from ex-Dragoons, ex-snipers and both hex and round receivers-- have ended. In fact, there are fewer and fewer refurbs available as those who have stocks are sitting on them as prices climb.

The price of a plain old 1942/1943 Izhevsk is at least two times higher than last year at this time. The going rate on GunBroker is approaching $ 200, fast.

And IF the emmbargo ends, don't bet that this or any other administration will allow these rifles back, even though they are bolt-action and not even semi-auto. I think someone has finally figured out that a 7.62x54mm round is the functional equivalent of a .30-06.

If you want one, you'd better get one right now. IF you can find one.

Thsnks for the info.
Greatest gun salesman has been this administration. Half tempted to start up a quiet gunsmithing operation as a side business with the crap going on.
