m'ladies
i like hearing what works for other women in any aspect of personal care.
not sure if others can say the same, but i feel like so much money gets wasted trying something new because its advertised to do xyz, but then doesn't actually do it. or some brands work and others don't.
maybe we could all share a few tips and pearls. smile
murad skin perfecting face moisturizer = best moisturizer i've ever used. my skin is sensitive and combination.
you can buy at sephora for 20+, OR buy on ebay for 15ish smile with shipping sometimes.

Get one of those make up removal cloths and rinse out the soap and then soak it with water and put it in the freezer over night put on on your eyes in the morning, work really good for puffiness and wakes you up fast.

oooooh smile i like that idea
Beauty blender.
Clinique face creams work best for me. Every now and then I put olive oil on my face because CA is so damn dry.

I will be back with beauty "secrets" later, but here is few at the top of my mind:
- I use Pureology products on my hair. It is sulfate free and vegan and recycled. While quite pricy, it is the only line that keeps my hair healthy, long and strong.
-Get regular hair trims and get rid of those dead ends
-Stay away from drug store make-up brands. The only thing I buy at the drugstore is mascara, and I discard it every 3 months or so. I use Lorea'l million dollar lashes or butterfly effect.
Otherwise, I buy my cosmetics at Ulta, Nordstrom or Sephora.
-Too Faced, Urban Decay, Dior, Tarte, Bare minerals, M.A.C, Bobby Brown, Estee Lauder, Lanc?me, Clinque and Kevyn Aucoin are some of my favorite make-up brands.
-Mineral powder makes a nice finish and doesn't make my skin break out.
-Recently, I gotten into "face-contouring". You need good make up brushes for it, but basically you use bronzer, blusher and highlighter and you learn to make your face up like those of super models. It is quite fascinating.
-Youtube has good videos on makeup. Lanc?me's artist Michelle Phan is quite good. Whatever technique I don't know, I try to learn.

wow. Look at all these tips.Laughing you must be a real looker, GC. Anyway, great read on below with mental/physical health too.

Clinique is the only expensive product i love. The other expensive products, the women in the family give it to me. I don't like them even though they are expensive. Some drug store cheap products, but it depends on the brand and maker, are very good and there's a goldmine you can find there instead of spending a ton of money on brand names.
Lancome Teinte Idole foundation and Hypnose Drama mascara. The bombs.

was gonna say the same thing! gc, i bet your gorgeous. these are great tips. i need to use more sunscreen for sure. but the dental hygiene part i really resonate with. i'm a big advocate for the idea that your general health starts at your mouth.
Citrus smoothie every morning (drink with a straw to protect the enamel on your teeth), vitamin C and natural collagen keeps the skin smooth
Only use natural products on the skin (soaps, lotions, oils (EVCO, Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter)
Use a new/clean towel on the face/acne prone areas with every wash
Gently exfoliate 3x week (I have oily skin)
Bentonite clay mask once a week
Keep your hands off your face!
I use to get into the hype over all of these commercial products, but this^^^^ has kept my skin looking flawless over the last few years. I use to breakout a week or two before my cycle, haven't had a breakout in a year.

-Urban Decay eyeshadow adheres to the skin wonderfully(with OR without base/primer coat). Pigments are rich, smooth-textured & easily blended with interesting ranges of hues, colors & combo palettes to choose from within the product line. Far better quality than MAC, for a similar price range.
-Learn how to apply liquid eyeliner. When properly done, the finish is superior to crayon-liner, which doesn't mesh well atop eyeshadow and tends to smudge over the course of the day.

Oh yeah, (for dry curly) hair:
Banana Mask (1 banana, 1/2 c. aloe vera juice, 2 tsp of oil of choice (I use avocado and EVOO) and coconut milk to desired consistency)---be sure to blend really really well. Put on a plastic cap and do whatever for an hour.
Your hair will feel very soft and look really shiny.
Pre-poo (before you wash your hair) with EVCO (Extra Virgin Coconut Oil) for an hour also help to strengthen the hair and add shine.
1. When applying conditioner, concentrate on placing it from the mid shaft to the ends of your hair, since that's the area that has suffered the most damage. Any conditioner on your roots will just weigh your hair down once dried.
2. For maximum volume, use a root lifting spray on wet hair and blow dry with your head upside down for about a minute. Then flip it back and continue drying as you normally would. Once completely dry, set your hair by switching to the 'cool' setting and blow at it for an additional minute. Rub a small amount of hair oil between your palms and apply to the ends of your hair. This adds shine and prevents tangles. Smooth the remaining oil on any front part of your hair that appears dull.
3. For maximum moisture, make sure you apply lotion after you've patted yourself dry, but while you are still in the bathroom. The heat and sauna-like environment will keep your pores open, allowing your skin to better absorb whatever product you put on. But make sure to do this within 5 minutes of drying yourself.
witch hazel. i soak a cotton pad with witch hazel and use it for a couple things??_
-a quick mid-day face cleaning
-cleansing and to reduce any redness or swelling from a cut or blemish. i noticed it really helps to take down redness and swelling!
not too long ago, i went on a hike with my bf who somehow must've brushed his leg against something he was allergic too cuz he was clawing at himself. fortunately i brought along a first aid kit (ya, i'm *that* capricorn) with a few cotton pads soaked with witch hazel in a ziplock bag. i used it to wipe down his leg and he was fine within minutes.

I used witch hazel as facial toner back when I was a teenager. I like that it isn't harsh & won't sting, irritate or over-dry the skin, like some commercial cleansing products can.
I should regiment this as routine again soon...it certainly wouldn't hurt to try.

exactly??_ for a few bucks a bottle at any grocery store, it's really great.
a few vitamins and supplements that i take that have been keeping hormonal break outs at bay??_ multivitamin and extra b3.
i bought a Skinray on Ebay for 20 bucks. Kind of a knock off of Zeno which is much more expensive, but it helps with budding under dermis zits??_ the deep ones that you know will plague your face for a while. It basically delivers enough heat to kill the bacteria, but not so much that it hurts or harms your skin. I've used it a few times so far on myself and my bf. he has these kinds of zits more than anything else and it helps reduce the lifespan of them by A LOT. So far they've cleared up within a couple days at most??_ withOUT breaking the skin surface.
oh, and metaphysical reciprocity once brought up oil-pulling which I've been doing recently??_ I've been using extra virgin organic coconut oil, and so far I can't speak of any noticeable over all health benefits, but my teeth have been whiter and I don't have that nasty morning breath or taste in my mouth. my mouth feels so clean all the time. it's pretty nice! especially if you're sucking on a significant other's face a lot. some people say their lips feel more moisturized??_ mine actually feel more chapped since oil-pulling. kinda weird.
I've recently tried oil-pulling too now & agree w/ the same results as you. As for beauty product recommendations, I've spent so much money on products over the years & have gotten better results w/ mostly natural, kitchen ingredients. RAW HONEY as facial cleanser, WITCH HAZEL as toner, and COCONUT OIL as moisturizer. Sometimes brushing my teeth w/ baking soda makes it feel more cleaner & whiter than toothpaste does. My bathroom looks like a 2nd kitchen pantry, but for me it works & is a LOT cheaper smile
^ Forgot to add: APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
^ Oh, and EGG WHITE FACIALS. Okay, I'm done smile
No, I'm not done. APPLE CIDER VINEGAR as toner I mean Big Grin
lmfao @ aqua style ??_ i haven't been on dxp for weeks and i was just going to get in this thread to say that i've recently taken a hard turn from a lot of store bought beauty stuff for all natural home concoctions too. i think you are spot on, lady??_ i've been trying sweet almond oil as a before bed facial moisturizer. it's full of vitamin a, b and e which are amazing for your skin. and it absorbs quickly so my face doesn't look oily at all as one might otherwise think. definitely worth a try considering its a fraction of the cost of what these other companies are selling their products for.
some ladies have mentioned baking soda as an exfoliator??_ i'm scurred, but i think i'm gonna give it a go. :p
baking soda: tried it. love it. def gonna do it again. thanks!
