I currently work in an IT department for a utility but I do administrative support work for 6 IT managers. They IT pay looks good but want sure if its a boring job or not. I'm thinking with my resources I could get internships very easy & would have an in since they know my work ethics.

Good info. I've heard if you have a specialty you can make more money. Since I work at a utility - app development & smart grid - I thought that it might provide me an in to a specialty. What are your thoughts?
I don't recommend to get as much as schooling as you can have, because if you must know, all of the skill acquisition you need? You will learn from yourself and not from schools. That is for sure. This is what reality is: In schools, they'll teach you only 1/8 of the basics that you need to know. You can learn that yourself. Then you pay them just for a piece of paper. In the real world, it's not about the paper in the IT world, The expectations are damn high even the ones that you've learned from school won't appear in technical exams. It's all about show-me-what-you've-got competition.
But it's worth it coz I'm loving it. I love the challenge. It's hard though I must admit. I still have lots of things to learn. And I want to grow more and more in this field.

Again more good information. The great thing about where I am as it encompasses telecom as well. There are so many areas to choose from. The hours I'm not afraid of. I've always worked about 60-70 hrs so I don't mind that part...now I do want the money for my time which is way I'm thinking of moving in this direction. I've heard that once you've built the experience you can move to consulting work which gets you traveling. That's where I want to go with it. I'm not interested in siting in one place until I'm ready to retire. Then I don't mind. Anyways I really do appreciate all this feedback. It's great food for thought. I'm makin my decision this weekend.

I wanted to say thank you for all the helpful information. I've decided to change my major to a Bachelor of Applied Science in Technology Management degree.
