So here goes, I interviewed with a local programming firm on Tuesday. Went rather well, so they gave me a project to complete by next Tuesday to demonstrate my skills, it was a simple VB.NET or C# project using their product.
I finished it withing 16 hours of receiving the email with the project specs, I turned it back in on Wednesday around 2pm...
Today, I got an email back "We would like to have you come in for a 2nd interview next week, let us know what time and day is best for you."
I so have the job already...
My whole reason for completing the project within a day was to make them crap their pants.
It's pretty straightforward, but if you want some good advice, learn more about programming logic than the syntax itself.
Logic is the most important part of programming. If you know what you're doing, you can learn the syntax of another language pretty quickly and get things going.
For instance, I've never used C# in my life, but the weekend before my interview I looked over some samples to get an idea of how to accomplish certain programming concepts in its syntax. That way I was able to answer most C# related technical questions they had for me in the interview.
yep, some video games a programmed in C, C++, some in C#, some in Java... yeah, I have seen full screen 3d games done well in Java, but I don't think Java performs as well as the others do because it's an interpreted language.
The language doesn't really matter as much as the APIs. Like DirectX and OpenGL for instance.
Yeah, it will work for now, it's a good "foot in the door" job...
They actually asked me why I was interviewing with them considering my Cisco experience, so I made up an excuse, "I focused on networking in High School, but in college my focus changed to programming." They liked that answer.
