Sonnet To Neptune

I saw you in a dream - afar and still,
Majestic and remote. You drew me on,
Soft vaporous mists enshrouded me until
The ground, secure beneath my feet, was gone.
Surrounded by the mystery of night,
Alone and weary, through the silence deep,
I followed the faint vision of your light
That bade me hope and seek and yearn and ..weep.
Now finally I stood at Journey's End,
The End? Beginning, rather, of my quest
For unheard music, visions that transcend
The bonds of time, and - at the end - to rest
"Erratic, erotic, mentally chaotic" the textbook say
(but falsely, it would seem)
Beyond all the yearning, a haven eternal...I think
You are the dream within the dream!
