Yeah funny texts are my signature..with him anyway. I don't know about you but he takes himself too seriously ALL THE TIME so its
just my way to 'lighten up' the conversation
Umm, we used to text almost everyday then he pulls off a houdini..That would throw me in a PANIC
When I "accepted" that it's just his way, I have to admit I cut back on the daily texts...sending funny facts and lunch reminders (because he skips meals) just seemed unwanted/unappreciated..whatever
Um, I'm weaning myself off him bit by bit, eventually by the time he resurfaces I can make a clean break.

Background:
It started with a facebook poke. I didn't remember him then but it turned out he was two years ahead of me in school. He reeled me in with his charm and subtle flirting. It didn't hurt that he told me he had a crush on me since I was in grade 2, which was just too cute.
We talked on/off for a year given that I was overseas then but when I got back home, we started a sort of text relationship. A first date later, we were a couple.
I love him, he pushed all the right buttons but I can't deal with his emotional detachment. The way he disappears for days without any??communication. He can be open about 'surface' topics but completely shuts down if I delve deeper.
He is disinterested in knowing things about me, I'm not sure if it's a lack of curiosity or just plain disinterest
He admits he has trust issues and that he's scared that down the road I'll leave him. If he does something wrong he'll be like, you hate me now or I know that you don't love me anymore..which starts me in a long session trying to reassure him.
These are all red flags and I told him we need to tackle this communication breakdown. He agrees then tells me he's busy with work or that he's in the middle of something which sounds like a brush off.
To be honest I got to the point where I was going to break-up with him, but his sister passed away. I've been supporting him with that and for a while we grew closer. Then he started withdrawing again with him finally cutting off communication and not responding to my text and phone calls.
I've had it, but I can't break up with him given that he's in a bad place now and there's a part of me that still holds on despite my disappointment..
What do I do?
