He's too afraid of her, of taking control of the situation by setting boundaries when it comes to frankly communicate with her, which is partially what arises by reading his original post. Laissez-faire tollerance is ok and encouraged, but when she takes it too far it's healthy to confront her head-on and draw a line to her nonsense.

He needs to work on his assertiveness most definitely.

Yup! Don't treat her like a rare creature or some riddle to solve, treat her like the human being she is. One day you're gonna wake up and realise she's actually not this magnificent creature you're projecting on her but a mere mortal, which will disappoint you. And How will you react?By rejecting her? That's something she might be afraid of.
