Every hour you'd awake
Crying for food
Or maybe coz you've peed
Or did a little poo
Mom should have made a note
Saying that babies do that,
Coz baby they do.

You have your father's face I mused
Yet when you open those big, round eyes
Thick, long lashes fluttering
Proudly I say: "Oh, there they are. Now those are mine."
But then you choke a little on the milk
My heart drops to my stomach
I thought I knew fear but
Your father gently pats you on the back
And I can breathe again

You grow taller
Heavier in my arms
You start rolling and pointing
Clapping and giggling
Then you're crawling, standing
You're jumping and saying gibberish
Dinosaurs scare you
But the wheel fascinates you
The ball, the sphere, the world
Like a little caveman
You throw objects all over the floor
Watching them as they fall
Discovering gravity for the first time
But then you're running and waving
